Franco Milo Romano was born on May 9, 1955, in San Mauro Pascoli, a small town in the north of Italy. He was called home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026, in San Diego, CA, where his family immigrated to in 1956. He passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Franco is survived by his four children, Marisa Steel (Graham Steel), Dante Romano (Ashley Romano), Dominic Romano, and Anthony Romano (Angelina Romano), and his five grandchildren, Gianna (6), Declan (4), Eliana (2), Amilio (3 months), and Baby Girl Romano (arriving in just a few weeks!) He is also survived by his brother, Italo Romano and sister, Caterina Romano, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Franco is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Melanie Romano, as well as his parents, Vittorio and Maria Isdraele-Romano, and older brother Dominic Romano.
Franco studied business at SDSU and spent many years in the family business as part owner and chef of Figaro’s Italian Restaurant. After the family sold the business, Franco worked as a financial advisor with Wells Fargo for 15 years before retiring.
In his spare time, Franco enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching sports (especially Italian soccer), passing down family traditions and recipes to his kids, and he loved his many years of playing softball with the Old Pros.
Franco is best described as a true family man; a devoted husband, a proud father, and a doting grandpa. He will be remembered for his animated storytelling, his jokes and hearty laugh, his amazing cooking, and most of all, for the love and warmth his presence exuded to everyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral Mass: Monday, March 9th at 12:30 pm at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Celebration of life to follow (Filippi’s, Scripps Ranch.)
