BARTHOL, FRANK March 18, 1932 to August 10, 2012 Frank Barthol, 80, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. Preceded in death by one sister Nadine and survived by his sisters Marilyn Young (Howard) of Excelsior, MN, and Penny Hammond of St. Paul. Frank attended Cretin High School, a Catholic school grounded in the tradition of a Military institute, and one of the oldest such programs in the United States (where Frank had his share of fun). He went on to the University of Minnesota. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in El Paso, Texas. He worked 33 years for the Post Office. Frank met his wife Geri while attending the UofM. They moved to San Diego in 1967, where they raised their three children. He and Geri shared 53 wonderful years together. He was so very proud of his family. Softball was Frank's favorite hobby. In his youth, he played City League Ball in St. Paul and concluded his ball playing career, as he liked to call it, in San Diego at the wonderful age of 78 due to a stroke. He enjoyed playing Senior Softball with his Glen Ivy, Top Gun and The RTVS buddies. If he could, he would bring one more bag of peanuts to the field and hit one over the head of the second baseman. He would have thanked each and every one of his teammates for giving him such a great softball experience. Frank was an honest man, a wonderful father who sometimes was more like one of the kids. Frank, his oldest, was a baseball buddy. Jim, his youngest, shared their love of anything with a gas engine. His daughter Becky was the apple of his eye. Family was very important to Frank, quite content to eat some popcorn or a White Castle and watch a football game. Having family over and sitting around the dining room table eating Pizza on Saturday night was a Barthol tradition. Frank leaves behind his wife Geri; his son Frank III and wife Chris of Chester, Illinois; daughter Becky Laughlin and husband Dennis of Poway; son Jim and wife Melinda of Santee; grandchildren, Jordan and Libby Laughlin, Frank IV, Brett and Trey Barthol; and many nieces and nephews also very loved by Frank. Frank was so fortunate to have his family with him in his last days, he would have said, "what more could I want, I've had it all."* The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers, doctors and nurses at Scripps Hospital for the kindness they showed Frank and the family. He will be greatly missed. Frank will be laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery. To send family flowers Call 1877.891.0431 use family code 51197
