My prayers and deepest condolences go out to Dr. De La Pena's family.  I had been seeing for him for years for colonoscopies and at my most recent colonoscopy I learned that he had passed away.  I was shocked and saddened.  I will never forget how kind, friendly and comforting he was.  Truly a great doctor and great person.  He will truly be missed.  May he rest in eternal peace.

So sad to hear of Dr. De La Pena passing I only knew him for about a year as a paitent he had the best bedside manner of any Dr. I have ever had he helped me beat my medical problem and I will never forget him I'm sure he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him I'm so sad by this news RIP.

Dr. de la Pena was the doctor for both me and my partner.  He was one of the kindest, dearest and most understanding doctors I have ever had in my lifetime.  He was very knowledgeable about the condition he was treating me for.  I will miss him greatly, he left us way too soon.  My prayers and support to his family.

Dr. De La Pena was one of the most caring, dedicated, sincere physicians of all times. He had an upbeat attitude, always positive and always so very helpful. His loss will be felt widely around the medical world. He was a sweet, kind, compassionate man.  I am so sorry for his wife and children.  One of the best of the best around.  I am saddened by the news...more like shocked by the news.

Dear Gary,

Thank you for being a supportive, fun, and generous friend.  You were an amazing person.  I remember you being fiercely competitive, yet very kind and humble in Kempo karate classes and in running.  I remember the 2012 Rock and Roll marathon, the first full marathon for both of us.  I remember how dedicated you were in training for the marathon.  Even with your busy schedule, I don't think you missed many Sunday morning 7:00 am long runs.  Thank you for the Turkey Trot running shirts you made for Brian and me.  I know that you made the shirts so the three of us could represent the 4S Ranch Track Team.  Somehow I could not bring myself to wear that shirt at the races because of the silly giant turkey logo on the front of the shirt:)  I know that you were very proud of that shirt because you even put "De la Pena" in big letters in the back of yours.  Gary, in honor of your memory I have decided to wear that shirt to my next race.  I know that you are going to see me in that shirt from above and smile.

Most of all, thank you for being a caring and supportive friend.  I remember the second shirt you made for me right before your second full marathon (Carlsbad 2013) when my friend Inez was dying.  I was very touched by your action.  Even when you were sick, last month, when I was running the Carlsbad marathon, you sent me a text message "Come on you're almost there!".  I was one mile away from the finish line and that encouragement meant so much to me.

Thank you, Gary for being a such caring person.  I am going to miss you.

I was sorry to hear about Gary on face book. I remember him and his sister. I took Karate lessons with him in his parents basement in Waverly Ohio when we were very young. My thoughts are with his whole family.

Manong Gary, we seldom see each other. It's only when you visit Sicaba during summer or when we fly to the US for the holidays. In those moments that were together and thru the pictures and news clippings you sent us regularly, you became my benchmark and my role model. You have been a good son, father, physician and friend. I worked with Dr D for 4 year at Kindred Hospital.  I will always  remember how he always walked into a room with a smile on his face! He was so sweet and friendly,  never letting anyone feel unnamed. He was such an inspiration and will be miss greatly.  Dr D. I hope you are resting peacefully, and I am so deeply saddened by your loss. You truly were an amazing person! So sorry to hear the sad news.  Condolences to your family.

Gary was an amazing person.  Over the few years I watched over Gary's beautiful young boys,  I would their faces light up every time they would see each other.  And Gary never came home empty handed.  He would always have THE best, most thoughtful and COOL gifts for his boys.  From Bowling alleys to miniature batting cages, popcorn machine to Lego's, video games to the best running shoes and cleats etc etc.  I was in awe of his genuine nature and beautiful ways with his family.  Gary was a hard worker and very dedicated to all he loved.  After working long hours he would still come home, with a huge smile on his face, sometimes even holding dinner in hands.  He would instantly change, to run out and be with his beloved boys, or rush to attend their sporting events.  He was an awesome dad. 

Gary was a runner.  The couple of years I worked there, he inspired me to like running.  He had everything a runner/biker could ask for.  And dedication.  I didn't know him for more than three years, but in that short time he touched my heart, and I feel very fortunate to have known him.  He was an all around incredible person and will be deeply missed.  Andrew and Alex... I miss you kids.  Erika... You are in my thoughts everyday.  Hugs and kisses.
