April 25, 1938 to Sep 13, 2012
Beloved husband, father, brother and uncle passed away peacefully with his three sons, Dennis, David and Danny, by his side on Sep 13, 2012 at the age of 74. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Liz, mother Rosalie B. Dray, his father Edward L. Dray, and brothers, Gleason and Bill Dray.
Dick was born in New London, Connecticut, to parents Edward Lee and Rosalie Barbara Dray. Dick moved to the West Coast in October 1950 with his mother Rosalie and his brother Bill and settled in San Diego, CA. As a teenager, he met wife, Liz, with whom he found friendship and love. Together they went on to have a lifetime of happiness, celebrating 51 ½ years of marriage before Liz went on to heaven in October 2009. Dick was a loving father to three sons, Dennis, David and Danny, and daughter-in-law, Shannon, and his best friend Peanut, his precious little Chihuahua.
While attending Point Loma High School, Dick played football and baseball where he lettered in both sports. After high school he continued to participate in sports, such as bowling and softball, where still no one could knock him off his feet.
In October 1956, Dick went to work for General Dynamics, where he held many engineering titles over the years, until finally retiring as a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist after 40 years of service.
Dick was very proud of the years he spent as a little league, pony league and colt league coach and manager. He was just as proud of all the kids he coached throughout the years.
Dick is survived by his three sons, Dennis, David and Danny, and daughter-in-law, Shannon. He is also survived by his two brothers, Edward “Bud” Dray and wife Elsie of New London, CT and Robert Dray and wife Diane of Tarpon Springs, FL.
Dick will surely be remembered for his sense of humor and laugh that was larger than life, backed up by a heart of gold.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 8th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Beardsley Mitchell Funeral Home, 1818 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., Ocean Beach. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, October 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 4776 Saratoga Ave., Ocean Beach. Following the Funeral Mass, Dick will be laid to rest with Liz, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego.
