I am sure you don't remember me, but we were friends in 4th grade before I moved away.  At that age, I, of course, had no idea who your dad was, other than just the nice man who always welcomed me at your home. As an adult, with a husband that loves golf, I have always paid attention when I heard your dad's name mentioned while watching televised tournaments, remembering some fond memories of spending time with you as a friend.
I wanted to express my sympathy to you and your family at his passing. Having lost my dad almost 2 years ago, and watching my mom in her final time here, I am sure you are missing him greatly.
If you are ever able, I would enjoy getting a chance to reconnect. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

My friend, what a great time we had together.  You,  Billy Casper, Bud Holscher, and me as members of the U S Navy Golf Team. Many tournaments, few if any loses. What a stellar professional career you had, an example for all caliber golfers to admire. 
I am so glad to have had the opportunity to know you.

My childhood hero has left us. My oh my, how I idolized Gene the Machine when I was growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. Was always excited when Gene was in contention and thrilled when he won. I got to meet him once at the New Orleans Open in 1971. I wore a custom made “Gene the Machine” shirt to the tourney. He noticed me in the gallery and came over and spoke to me for a few minutes. I was in awe. RIP sweet man. Prayers for Shirley, Curt, and Suzanne. 

A gentle man who allowed this young skinny kid to follow and experience a very small part of his career. Shirley allowed me to walk under her umbrella as we followed him at numerous events. It was always easy to find Gene on the course, just look for Shirley’s sun- reflecting golf umbrella. I was honored to call him friend.
