Giovanna Tarantino was born the eldest of five children in S. Elia, Sicily, on January 28, 1921. She immigrated to America on the luxury liner, Andrea Doria, to join her beloved husband, Antonio, in 1955 with their young family, settling in San Diego. Mrs. Tarantino was special to all who knew her. By her example, she became instrumental in teaching the Faith, the virtue of patience, Sicilian culture and tradition to the younger generation.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife of 51 years, mother to six surviving sons: Joe, Anthony, Salvatore, Frank, Mario, and John. She had 22 grandchildren, 13 great-grand-children, a surviving sister who resides in San Diego and a brother living in Sicily. Her entire family will miss her generosity and knack for fine Sicilian cuisine, knitting and beautiful customized crochet work.
Viewing will be held at Goodbody's Mortuary on Friday, September 3rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. The recitation of the Holy Rosary and Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, September 4th, at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.
Arrangements under the direction of Goodbody Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
