Harold Frank Lindell, Hal, age 91, died of natural causes January 23rd, 2014, at his home in La Vida Real in San Diego, California. He was born December 14th, 1922 in Tigerton, Wisconsin to Harold and Grace Nichols Lindell.
He served in World War II as a paratrooper, and was chosen Drum Major of 101st Airborne Division Band, leading Patton's troops in the Victory Parades in Paris and New York City.
While training at Marana Army Base near Tucson, Arizona, Hal married his high school sweetheart Jeane Stefl; June 10, 1944.
They bought their first Red Owl grocery store in 1958 and built a legacy of Hal's Red Owl stores, later joined by son Jim, eventually operating as Lindy's County Markets. In 1983 Hal was named Wisconsin Grocer of the Year.
Hal and Jeane lived in Kaukauna, Wisconsin and were members of Butte des Morts Country Club. They became snowbirds and continued golfing when they retired in Phoenix, Arizona.
Hal is survived by his son Jim (Sandy), daughter Cherie (Louis); brother Jack Van Lanen, grand-kids Pete (Niki) and Jon (Karena) Lindell; Marieka and Nicole Spitzen; great grand-kids Ruby Sue and Remy, Jonas and Miles. He was loved by his 14 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jeane Stefl Lindell, his parents, Harold and Grace Lindell, step-parents George and Ida Van Lanen, his sister June Moore, brothers Wes and Bob Lindell; Don, Bill and Richard Van Lanen, sisters and brother-in-law Virginia Sifford, Fern and Ned Wulk and his grandson, Tanner James Spitzen.
His Celebration of Life will be at 11 am, Saturday, February 1st in the Acapulco Room of La Jolla Shores Hotel, in San Diego, California.
We wish to thank La Vida Real for their tender loving care. Daddy missed Mom terribly and now they are dancing together again in God's loving embrace.
