He was the son of William Wiley Simpson and Hazel Harriet Hunt Simpson. Harold married the love of his life, Virginia (“Ginny”), and together they shared 79 wonderful years of marriage.
Harold is survived by his children: Don Simpson, Bob Simpson, and Gail Bryan. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Nick Simpson, Sunni McBride, Luke Simpson, Alan Simpson, David Simpson, Melanie Peyton, Amy Bryan, and Tracy McCall. He was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Harold served honorably in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Following his service, he began his building career in Colorado and went on to become one of the largest apartment builders in the United States.
After many successful years in Colorado, Harold and Ginny moved to Arizona, where they spent 25 years enjoying golf and friendships at Paradise Valley Country Club. Fulfilling a lifelong dream to live by the ocean, they later moved to La Jolla, where they purchased a beautiful oceanfront home and became members of La Jolla Country Club.
Harold and Ginny were deeply committed to philanthropy throughout their lives. Harold often said that God had given him a gift for building apartments so he could, in turn, be generous to others. His favorite charitable organization was Denver Seminary, where he dedicated many years of support as the seminary expanded and built its new campus. In honor of his mother, the chapel was named the Hazel Harriet Simpson Chapel.
Harold and Ginny especially loved traveling, golfing, and spending time with their many dear friends and family members.
Harold was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Ed Simpson, Wayne Simpson, Bill Simpson, Norbert Simpson, Louie Simpson, Mildred Simpson, and Gladys Mercer.
