
Heinz (“Hank”) Rinnert died peacefully in his sleep on August 11, 2015 at his home in Del Mar, California. Hank was 94 years old. He was born in Grunberg, Germany in 1921 and moved to Brooklyn, New York, with his parents and younger brother, Gerhart, when he was 5 years old. After graduating from high school in New York, he joined the army and served our country in World War II in the South Pacific. He was awarded a Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Hank attended the University of California, Berkley, where he earned his Master’s in Physics. Hank went on to work for the U.S. Navy as a mechanical engineer. Working in the Navy, Hank met the love of his life, Eva (“Eve”) Mitchell and married her in 1961. Hank and Eve moved to Del Mar, California in 1968 where they met their second family in their many dear neighbors whom they thoroughly enjoyed. Hank had a brilliant mind and devoured books on the sciences and travel. Hank savored both his domestic and international travels and shared his photographs and tales from those experiences with friends and family. Hank loved good company and delicious food. He was a ballroom dancer and perfected the art of martini making. His smile lit up his entire face and he never lost his German accent. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerhart, and his wife, Eva. He is dearly missed by his nieces, Linda Wall (Larry) and Donna Rinnert, Patricia Gates, Dorothy Mitchell, his many other great-nieces and nephews, his dear neighbors and friends (who are one and the same). He was interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with military honors and his life was celebrated with a Christian service with family and friends at El Camino Memorial on October 12, 2015.
