Henry Monta Gasang
July 26, 1944 – June 7, 2021
Henry Monta Gasang passed peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2021, in San Diego, CA. Beloved husband, father, and cherished grandfather, Henry will be remembered and celebrated on Monday, July 19, 2021. Born on July 26, 1944, in Manila, Philippines to Gavino and Braulia Gasang, he was lovingly nicknamed "Boying". Henry is a veteran of the Vietnam war and served in the U.S. Navy for twenty years, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer as a Medical Field Service and Preventive Medicine Technician (hospital corpsman).
Henry laughed and lived loudly. He loved Big Macs, donuts, Snickers, Facebook, Investigation Discovery, and his grandchildren. Not necessarily in that order. He hated healthy food and hypocrites. Not necessarily in that order. An avid lover of classical music and legends, such as Frank Sinatra, Henry could always be caught swinging his hips to the throwback days that personified coolness, romanticism, adventure, fierce loyalty, and a bit of mischief. Always accessible and willing to lend a helping hand to others, Henry will be greatly missed.
He was loved and survived by his wife of 50 years Myrna; grandchildren Seth Segovia and Leah Segovia; children Ferdinand Gasang, Jocelyn Segovia (and husband Martin), Jennifer Gasang and Christian Gasang; sister Flordeliz Salamat (and husband Rodrigo); brothers Roger Gasang (and wife Lily) and Edwin Gasang (and wife Beth); and predeceased by sisters Fe Gasang and Lilia Bejar.
For those wishing to honor Boying, please send a donation in his memory to the Veterans Affairs/San Diego Healthcare System and/or La Jolla Music Society.
