Jim will greatly miss his dad, they talked on the phone every week or so. Bard was always very interested in what we were doing and how we were doing. He always asked how my quilting was going and how Jim's golf game was doing. He had a great sense of humor and was always making jokes about something. Our last family gathering was in September 2017 when Bobby came to visit and we all had a fantastic time. Bard brought out old photos and man he had a great memory. We enjoyed the day very much reminiscing about old times. He will be greatly missed, all our love, Jim and Jeanette

I have found memories of my Uncle Bard, whom we affectionately called Uncle Tex growing up. He was a kind, gentle and unassuming man, and a great artist. He grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, the only boy of three children born to Arthur (a heating engineer with F. D. Wellcome & Son of Waltham for 40 years until 1939, and later Buckley & Scott for 35 years, and gifted Tenor soloist) and Alice Edna Barden Wellcome, formerly of West Paris, Maine, a gifted soprano and pianist & homemaker) previously known as the Wellcome Singers on WROL of Boston for 40 years, who were married for 50 years. Arthur was a proud descendant of Sir Henry S Wellcome of Garden City, Minnesota who, along with Silas Burroughs, co-founded the largest pharmaceutical company in the world, originally known as Burroughs Wellcome, which later became Glaxo Wellcome and is now known as GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Sir Henry was knighted by King George V (Queen Elizabeth's grandfather) in 1932, who upon his death in 1936, created The Wellcome Trust, one of the World's largest philanthropic organizations. Bard graduated from Waltham High School, Class of 1944, and went on and graduated from the University of Arizona, before having his 5 boys, Bobbie, twins Jimmy & Jerry, Johnny Clark and Charles Barden.
Bard was the loving brother of the late Dorothy Wellcome, a former child prodigy pianist who opened for Rachmaninoff in Boston at the age of nine, and gifted classical crossover child prodigy singer, and artist. Donald Kahn, son of the well known lyricist Gus Kahn, said it best about in an interview with Ron Della Chiesa of Boston's WPLM, "Dorothy has the voice of Sarah Brightman, the [piano] touch of Van Cliburn, the stunning and endless beauty of Elizabeth Taylor, the dignity of Julie Andrews and the enduring grace of Grace Kelly. He will be sorely missed by all, especially his loving and adoring wife, Carolyn Yorston Wellcome of La Yolla, California. Christopher Wellcome [Telephone (978) 526-9000]
