She met her then future husband, Conrado Asencio Hinojosa, in Veracruz before he went off to serve in WWII in the US Army Air Corps and US Air Force. He returned for her after the war and in 1949 they were married and they moved to the US. As an Air Force wife for 30 years, she enjoyed the travel and living in other countries including Spain and Japan.
Ines was a home maker and loving mother to her 5 children. She had studied to be a seamstress when she was young and enjoyed making clothes, pillows and other items for her children. When she came to the US for the first time, she had only a 6th grade education, but she worked hard and earned her high school diploma from the San Diego Adult School high school program at the Clairemont campus in 1974.
During the Viet Nam war, her husband was assigned to Tachikawa Air Force Base in Japan where she performed volunteer work in the base hospital casualty ward tending to the war wounded.
After her husband’s retirement from the military service, they moved to San Diego where she lived for the last 45 years. Her husband passed away in 1989.
Ines was an extremely independent woman of strong will and character, remained very active and continued driving until she was 88 years old. She enjoyed visiting with family members and socializing with her circle of friends (her “cuatachas,” aka bffs).
Ines was a loyal parishioner for 40+ years at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene.
Up to the very end, she loved music, good food and good company and never lost her sense of humor. She was a tremendous personality and was loved by all her friends and her children’s friends as well. Once she made friends, it was for life and she stayed in touch no matter how far away they were. She embraced life and life embraced her.
She is predeceased by her husband of 40 years and her grandson, Adrian Vusich. She is survived by her 5 children: Conrado A. Hinojosa, Jr, Magali Vusich and her husband Marty Vusich, Teresita Hinojosa, Jorge Hinojosa and his wife Patty Hinojosa, and Daniel Hinojosa and his wife Rowena Hinojosa; her 6 grandchildren: Dominique C. Hinojosa, Sergio C. Hinojosa, Taunya Robinson, Lauren H. Rustich, Victoria Hinojosa and Samuel Hinojosa; and 2 great grandchildren: Logan Hinojosa and Mason V. Trotter as well as her brother: Santiago Del Barrio.
Ines was a very special person; we love her very much and will always miss her.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the St. Mary Magdalene church would be appreciated.
