Inge Soviak passed Sunday evening, May 20, 2018. Inge and her husband, Andy, were married for 64 years, prior to his passing last year. They have children – Mary Flagg (Raymond) and Jytte Leventhal (Larry) – and have 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren Andy and Inge Soviak had been living with Jytte and her husband, Larry, since moving to San Diego in 2014. Inge was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on March 7, 1930. She immigrated to the United States after World War II, in 1950. Inge met Andy, when he and his partner were called to Inge’s and her roommate’s home one night; Andy couldn’t help but come back and check to make sure Inge was OK a couple more times before asking her out on their first date. They were married in 1953 and lived in West Covina, California, Effingham, Illinois, and finally here in San Diego. Inge was a teacher in the Covina Valley Unified School District for 35 years and loved working with children. She served in the young women’s organization most of her adult life at church. Her loves were her husband, her family, the youth, and her church.
One of the most important events in Inge’s life was when she and her beloved husband were sealed in 2011 after Andy was baptized. Inge had some struggles this past year following a stroke, and asked Jytte “Was I sealed to Andy?” When Jytte assured her, Inge would respond “Oh good.” Diminutive Inge’s love, huge spirit and smile will be missed, but we and her family know that Inge’s spirit lives on, reunited with her cherished husband and loving, Danish ancestors.
