Biography

Isagani Jaring David, born in 1951 to Avelino and Elizabeth David in the Philippines, was a loving, pragmatic, and curious person. As a child, Isagani learned to tinker with electronics and wood-working from his parents. He joined the Navy as a young adult and traveled the world. He married the love of his life, Ofelia, in 1985 and whisked her away to the United States in 1989. Children in tow, the Davids started their new life in Mira Mesa. They loved to work on their home and garden. Over the years, Isagani turned a humble house into a home and dirt patch into a verdant, lush and bountiful garden that birds, hummingbirds, and bees often visited. They often shared the bounty with neighbors, family, and friends.

Isagani David from Chapman College and worked as a Computer Engineer to provide financial security and teach his children the value of education, hard work, and perseverance. He worked hard during the trying times of the recession to continue to provide stability and send his children- Jon, Christiana, and Christina to school. His prime goals in life were to ensure his children's success via education.

"What happens to the soul and the spirit after we pass?", "What is the meaning of life?" Isagani often asked existential questions to perhaps prepare himself for external life, or perhaps to fulfill his unquenchable curiosity. Only he will know.

Isagani's last moments were spent watching the spirited Merckx, the dog, which brought him tremendous happiness in the lush garden he tended. He passed on September 30, 2019, at Scripps La Jolla Hospital surrounded by his family and was blessed by the hospital chaplain.

Isagani lives on in the lives he influenced, joy he spread, and his values instilled into his children.

What more could he have asked?
