Izetta Jewell Jones
March 20, 1924 – May 5, 2021
Izetta Jewell Jones, loving wife and mother, was born on March 20, 1924 and passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021. She is under the care of El Camino Memorial — Sorrento Valley, San Diego. Izetta was a proud resident of San Diego County for more than 75 years, seeing many changes along the way.
She was born in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, daughter to parents Clarence and Myrtle, and sister to William, all who preceded Izetta in death. Izetta completed high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving to San Diego, patriotically taking a job in a World War II aircraft manufacturing plant. She was a real life Rosie the Riveter. During this period, she met the love of her life and husband to be, Harold Doyle Jones, a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, while serving his country in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. After his honorable discharge, Izetta and Doyle married in 1946, and started a family soon after. She had three sons, Ronald (Jan), Rick and Mike (Michele). She was proceeded in death by her husband, Doyle, in 1973.
As her sons grew up, Izetta returned to the workforce, first at The Broadway in Grossmont Center, La Mesa and shortly after at the San Diego County Library System, first in the Fletcher Hills and after the Lakeside branches. She was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in El Cajon, until she became unable to regularly attend mass. She was also a devoted animal lover, and enjoyed her four-legged companions.
At Izetta’s request, a formal memorial service will not be conducted.
