Jason Michael Powell “JJ”, 22, passed away at home on July 25, 2017. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday August 2, at El Camino Memorial Park in Sorrento Valley at 12:00 noon. Jason was born on October 16, 1994 to Michael and Janet Powell and was raised in Scripps Ranch, later moving to Rancho Bernardo. He was the older brother to Ryan Powell. Jason graduated from Del Norte High School in 2013, and Abraxas School in 2016. He also attended Miramar College and was excited to start classes at Mesa College in the fall. For the last year and a half he worked at Phil’s BBQ in Rancho Bernardo. Jason’s purpose in life was to make others happy. He was an “old soul”, who was always ready to give to those he loved and he loved everyone. Jason was quick to help and mentor those younger or less fortunate. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. His fix-all for any situation was baking cookies; he baked for co-workers, friends, teachers, and his last batch went to his grandmother who was recovering from a fall. Jason’s talents included photography, building legos, model cars, and baking. He was working towards his black belt in Karate. He leaves to cherish his memory: Grandparents - Mami (Tom) Mizuguchi; Grandmother - Joan Evans; Parents - Michael and Janet Powell; Brother - Ryan Powell; His beloved dogs - Lexie, Benjamin and Bailey; Uncles - Jamie (Molly) Evans, Jerry (Jackie) Evans, Martin Togni; Aunties - Anne Powell, Mia Powell, Joan (Jim) Walsh, Julie (Rip) Evans-Profeta, Christina (Chris) Evans; Cousins- Ellye Walsh, Matt Togni, Brooke Walsh, Ian Evans, Brendan Togni. Instead of flowers Jason would have wanted you to do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness in his name.
