

John Joseph Vattuone, 79, born March 29,1947 at Mercy Hospital in San Diego to John B. and Matilda C. Vattuone, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026. A native San Diegan, he was a devoted husband, father, Nonno, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by wife of 30 years, Patricia; son John and daughter-in-law Vita; daughter Amy and son-in-law Craig; grandchildren Johnny, Ezra, Gianna, and Jude; sister Carolann; nieces and nephews; and many cousins. After graduating from St. Vincent de Paul, he graduated from St. Augustine High School. A proud Saintsman, he attended Mesa College before entering the Marine Corps in 1967. John was a hard-worker and went on to own several successful businesses before retiring and moving to Palm Desert, CA with his beloved Patricia. John and Patricia enjoyed wonderful travelling adventures after their retirement. John’s devotion to his faith and the Catholic church was ever constant. He was also a member of the Optimist Club for many years, a lifelong USC Trojan fan, and enjoyed golfing and sportfishing. John was a sports enthusiast whether it was watching The Padres, coaching Little League baseball for more than a decade, or being an avid fan at his grandchildren’s games. John had a larger than life personality and enjoyed sharing it with his family, his most fulfilling legacy. He is deeply loved and respected and will be sadly missed. John’s family is grateful to Gentiva Hospice and Lauren Samuels for her amazing care. A Rosary and Mass will be held for John April 9 at 9:30am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, State and Date Streets. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Labre Indian School in Ashland Montana, Toys for Tots, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
