Joseph Anthony Peluso

Joseph Anthony Peluso, Jr. passed away on July 20, 2020 with his family by his side. He was born in Long Beach, California on November 3, 1940. He lived in Bristol, Connecticut until he joined the Navy at the age of 17. He served aboard the Submarines USS Bang and the USS Tullibee.

On October 3, 1964 he married Barbara Kohutka of Bristol. They have two children Paul Peluso, wife Paula, and Daughter Patricia LeClair. Grandchildren Alyssa Peluso, Genna Peluso, Kelsey LeClair, Gage LeClair and stepchildren grandchildren Kris Webster, wife Clennie and Austin Webster.

After serving in the Submarine Force he joined Kaman Aerospace in 1971 and took the first Lamps Mark I Helicopter out to sea on the USS Belnap. He became an integral part of Naval Helicopter Aviation as Program Manager of the H-60 Fleet Introduction Team until he retired on January 14, 2011.

After a three-year tour in Naples, Italy the family moved to San Diego in 1975 where he became active in the community. He helped when Paul was in Boy Scouts and they both made Life Scouts.

He was on n the Board of Directors of the Mira Mesa Little League and Girls’ Softball. During that time, he also umpired which he continued to do for 20 years.

As a Eucharistic Minister at Good Shephard Parish he gave Patty her first Communion.

Joseph was avid photographer and also enjoyed woodworking.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Submarine Veterans and Naval Helicopter Association Historical Society.

He received the Rotary Club Paul Harvey Award.

He received the Naval Helicopter Association Lifelong Service award and the Mark Starr Pioneer Award.

He will be greatly missed!

The Peluso family has asked that donations be made in Joseph’s honor to the NHA Historical Society (NHAHS) to establish a scholarship in Joe’s name.
