Married to Angel Avila Jr. in 1956. She was a beloved mother to Eric Apodaca, Joseph Avila, Connie Casillas, Mary Connolly, Angelina Avila and Paul Avila. Eldest sister to Margaret, Frank, Jenny, Paul, Pauline, Mary, Susy, Pete, Helen, Ralph, Vicky and Diane.
Beloved grandmother to Elisa and Manuel Casillas; Krystalina Ventura; Alexis, Paula, Gary Jr., and Julia Connolly; Diana, Selina, David Jr. and Michelle Flores. Beloved great-grandmother of Manuel Jr., Joseph, Jonathan, Robert and Baby Josephine. A wonderful niece, aunt, godmother, friend and neighbor to many.
Josephine worked in her youth as a farm worker in the fields of Greeley, Colorado. She also worked at the Camfield Hotel until relocating to San Diego. The hotel owners were fond of Josie and her sister Margaret, they considered them as their best waitresses. In San Diego, Josie graciously worked for many years in the elderly health care field. Her career then turned to the San Diego Unified School District, as a teacher's aide, helping many youths for 25 years until retirement.
Josephine took care of her younger sisters and they will always remember how she curled their long hair with "rag" curls also known as Shirley Temple curls. Josie enjoyed country western music such as Hank Williams, Jimmy Dickens and Charlie Pride.
Her gift of wonderful home cooking, warm hugs and beautiful smile will be a few of her many traits that will be truly missed.
Josephine now leaves us with heavy hearts, but is now at peace with all her awaiting angels in our heavenly fathers Kindom.
