Julia Mary Bandrup, 89, of Chula Vista, California passed away peacefully in her home on February 18, 2019. Julia was born on July 28, 1929 to Pedro Ortega & Alejandra Mendoza in San Diego, California. Julia had five brothers and six sisters, who grew up in Old Town San Diego. Three of her siblings died at birth, and her older sister, Maria, died at age 15 of tuberculosis. She is survived by her brothers Lorenzo and Rudolfo Ortega, and her sisters Bertha Magana & Helen Ortega.
In 1947, Julia married Harold Bandrup, and they were married for 25 years before their divorce in 1972. Together they had six children, Edward Harold Bandrup, Michael Joseph Bandrup, Deborah Helga Bute, Eric Alexander Bandrup, Robert Pete Bandrup, and Gerald Christopher Bandrup.
Julia was a loving Grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and an aunt to over 43 nieces and nephews. For the last 9 months, Julia was on Hospice, and cared for by her loving daughter-in-law, Jamie Miller Bandrup. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Susan Bandrup, and her son-in-law, Kenneth Bute.
After Julia retired as a caregiver at the age of 67, she began raising her Grandson Jason from the early age of one. Julia loved this time of her life. Besides her family and her dog, Sandra, Julia’s biggest love was Elvis Presley. She was lucky enough to see Elvis in Las Vegas with her cousins Norma Marler, and Christine “Sister” Romero.
She was predeceased by both of her parents, seven brothers & sisters, and her only daughter, Deborah Helga Bute.
A Rosary and Mass will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 10:30 am., at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 2540 San Diego Avenue in Old Town San Diego.
