Kenneth Bersofsky passed away in San Diego, California, aer a long illness. Ken was raised on the lower east side of Manhattan where he attended Stuyvesant High School and The City College of New York. He moved to Camillus, NY in 1976, and spent close to 30 years teaching Physics at Marcellus High School. Ken enjoyed this role immensely despite the harsh upstate New York winters. During his time at Marcellus, he was also able to hone his talents for electrical wiring and construction design on the home he shared with his wife, Joan (Pomerantz), and their two children, Danielle (Cohen) and Andrew.
In 2002, Ken, Joan and Andrew moved to San Diego, CA to be closer to Danielle, and enjoy better weather at the same time. Ken continued teaching Physics and other sciences in high schools throughout Southern California for 12 more years and continued to amass a large following of former students and student teachers who remember him fondly.
Although Ken retired from teaching officially in 2014, he tutored students privately for several more years. He also enjoyed serving as a docent at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. After Covid put a halt to these positions in 2020, Ken took on numerous home projects, including but not limited to, assisting Andrew and his wife, Krystal (Sperbeck), with a major home renovation. And nothing could stop Ken from becoming a cherished grandfather to Alanna, Adam, Aleyia, Avery, Emma, Aliza and Anden.
Ken is predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Anne (Goldberg), as well as his brother, Arnold, sister, Lynn (Simon) and nephew Keith (Shapiro). He is survived by his wife, Joan, his children, Danielle and Andrew, their spouses, Andrew and Krystal, seven grandchildren, his sister Meryl (Shapiro), numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and a large group of friends, some of whom date back to his years living in Manhattan. Donations may be made in Ken’s memory to ALS Association and Association for Frontal Temporal Degeneration.
