Kim Wasung

Kim John Wasung, born on March 27, 1954 in Los Angeles, California, bid farewell to this world on May 17, 2024. He was the cherished husband of Karen and loving father of Kelsea and Karly. Kim was the beloved son of Thaddeus Wasung and Lorraine Graczyk and brother to Pamela, Janet and Kathy.

Kim grew up in Granada Hills and it was during these years that his love for swimming, basketball, and tennis blossomed. He excelled on the basketball courts in high school and on the JV team at UCLA. In later years, he embraced the thrill of tennis where he found joy in the friendships that came with it.

It was in San Diego that Kim met the love of his life, Karen. Married on July 14, 1990, they embarked on a journey that spanned 35 years, filled with love, laughter, and boundless joy, which brought them two beautiful daughters, Kelsea and Karly. San Diego provided Kim with endless ocean adventures, which truly ignited his spirit. An avid kayaker, water skier, boater, snorkeler, body surfer and swimmer, Kim reveled in the depths of the waves and soaked up the sunshine. A passionate photographer and videographer, he captured the beauty and wonder of nature and priceless family memories. Kim displayed his creativity through the delicate art of glass blowing, wood working, stained glass, and ceramics.

Kim shared his thirst for exploration with his family and when he went on solo trips he always brought a trinket back for the girls. Beyond his love of family, athletics, artistic abilities, music, and travel, Kim possessed a rare gift—the ability to effortlessly connect with people from all walks of life. With a warm smile and a genuine interest in others, he had an uncanny knack for striking up conversations and making friends wherever he went.

As a husband, father, brother, son, fun uncle, and friend, Kim's warmth, kindness, generosity, and sense of adventure left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his loved ones, a testament to a life lived with purpose and love.
