Layne Xere Womack (65) passed away peacefully at his home in San Diego, California, surrounded by the loving care of his family on January 15, 2025. He was born on January 12, 1960 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Carroll Berwyn Womack and Guinevere Ellen (Byers).
Layne is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Debbie; his children: Clinton, Danielle, Travis, Kristy, Zosha, and Arianna; his 14 beloved grandchildren; his siblings: Wade, Shawn, and Robert; as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Layne spent most of his youth in Orange County, CA, where he developed a passion for football and golf during his high school years. After high school, he began working alongside his father at Encore Office Supplies. He eventually launched his own company with Debbie and started International Office Supplies which expanded to include furniture, a print shop, and a copy and invitation center. They concurrently opened Orange County Office Supplies. Later in his career, he worked in the mortgage industry at Best Rate Funding before establishing his final business, Your Good Insurance Agency, which he operated until his passing.
A lover of the ocean, Layne cherished vacations near the water and found joy in beachside retreats. He also loved a good project such as helping his children plan weddings, finding the ultimate Christmas gift every year, hosting legendary Super Bowl parties with an abundance of food, or designing jewelry and men’s shorts. He once said, “Nothing amazing isn’t at least a little ridiculous.” This is definitely a motto he lived by.
Layne spent countless hours coaching Pop Warner football, soccer, and mentoring his children and grandchildren in athletics and music. Over the past 15 years he enjoyed working with several of his grandchildren on softball. In conversations with others he often spoke of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was proud to share and celebrate in their achievements. He also dedicated time to being an AA sponsor and greatly respected his wonderful friends in AA. He marked 25 years of sobriety at the time of his passing.
Layne most cherished his family and friends in this life. He loved with such a big heart and was equally loved back. He will always be remembered for his perseverance, his generosity, and the remarkable life he led.
A celebration of Layne’s life will be held on February 11, 2025 at El Camino Memorial-Sorrento Valley & Memorial Park at 11 a.m
