It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonora Burcina Baquiran, who peacefully left this world at the age of 77. She took her last breath while listening to her late husband’s favorite song, Frank Sinatra’s, “My Way.”
Born on September 10, 1948, in Tarlac, Tarlac Philippines. Leonora aka “Lisa” or “Auring” was the beloved daughter of Dominador Burcina and Agapita Montoya. She was the eldest of 10 siblings. She lived a life defined by hard work, love, and dedication to her family. In 1976, she married the love of her life, Rudolph Atangan Baquiran. Together they built a beautiful family and made Linda Vista in San Diego their home. She raised two children: Rose and Rodney. Her love extended to her cherished grandchildren—Jayden, Jayson, Jayla, and Amina.
Lisa blessed her home as a homemaker while her husband was out to sea serving the United States Navy. No need to constantly move due to her husband’s deployments, a steady place to live is what the husband and wife provided. She walked her kids to and from Holy Family School. Her cooking is dearly missed—kare kare, sinigang, pancit palabok amongst others. She taught her kids how to speak Tagalog.
Lisa found joy in the simple pleasures of life—she was happiest when cooking and feeding everyone. Asides from cooking for others, she loved to eat. Buffets were her favorite—seafood of all sorts especially crab legs and oysters. She was happiest when surrounded by family, sharing a meal, and watching her grandchildren grow. If she had a chance, you could see her playing penny slot machines and yes—seafood buffet.
Lisa had an infectious laugh and a firecracker personality. Part-time comedian was her other occupation. She loved to joke, pull your leg, call you by your nickname given by her personally. Her eyes would light up, her cheeks rosy, her smile contagious. Perhaps a little dance move as music would play as she shrugged her shoulders and kicked up her feet to the beat.
Lisa was obsessed with her TFC (The Filipino Channel). Watching ASAP every Sunday, Filipino movies made her day. As the years went by, her love for TFC was overshadowed by K-dramas—Boys Over Flowers, Crash Landing on You, just a few on her repeat list. Even sharing a fascination with BTS, a Korean K-pop group loved also by her daughter and grand-daughter. Calling her favorite group member, her boyfriend.
Her unwavering love and dedication to her family will be her lasting legacy. She worked tirelessly to provide and ensure their happiness, and her presence will be deeply missed. Lisa will be laid to rest next to her love, whom she longed to see.
