Lillian was born on September 10, 1921, in Lomita, California. Surviving the depression, she worked for an oil company during WWII where her job was to climb 200 steps to the top of holding tanks full of oil and gasoline to read gauges. She met her future military husband at a skating rink in Long Beach and, after marrying in 1946, they were stationed in places such as Boston, New Jersey, and Washington state. They were finally stationed in San Diego in 1950 where she was a housewife active in her church, PTA, and served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She was also part owner of Tom’s Bake Shoppe in Casa de Oro for 23 years until she finally retired at the age of 79.
She is survived by three children Nancy Hallowell-Sallee, Tom Adams, and Polly Adams, three grandchildren Amy Wick, Tom Hallowell, and Megan Mitchell, and five great-grandchildren, some of whom she helped take care of on her own until the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Luther Noland Adams.
Lillian was a loving, caring, and strong woman, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be very much missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 31, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 5380 El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92115. A one-hour viewing will precede the service starting at 10 a.m. Immediately following the service, relatives and friends are invited to a reception at 5450 Grape Street, San Diego, CA 92105.
Graveside services will be held the following day, Friday, June 1, at 1 p.m. at Greenhills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
