Lloyd Sakakihara passed away at home in San Diego on August 3, 2015. He is survived by his wife Maxine, son Greg, and brothers Marvin, Bruce, and Dean. He was born on February 22, 1948 in Sacramento, the first son of the late Nellie and Harry Sakakihara. Lloyd was student body president and Boys State representative for Grant Union High School. He received a scholarship to UC Davis and graduated with a BS in civil engineering and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He received a MBA in business from San Francisco State University. Lloyd's first job was working for Caltrans in San Francisco. In 1974 Lloyd went to work for the U.S. Department of the Navy as a civilian at the WESTDIV Naval Facility in San Bruno. He moved to the Project Management branch, where he quickly rose up the ranks. During those years in Project Management, he transferred from San Bruno to Washington D.C., back to San Bruno as Department Head, then to SOUTHWESTDIV in San Diego. He accepted the opportunity to transfer to Naples, Italy as the first GS-15 to head a department at EFA Med (Engineering Field Activity Mediterranean). On returning to San Diego, Lloyd held various positions and retired in 2005 as Comptroller. During his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, attending tailgates at the Charger games, hosting his monthly poker games, fishing with Maxine’s sisters, and attending the yearly Summer Pops concerts. Lloyd and Maxine did quite a bit of traveling to places like China, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. They went on cruises with his brothers and their wives, Dean and Tracie and Marvin and Jean. As great sports fans, Lloyd and his brothers made a baseball driving tour of nine midwestern baseball stadiums. Memorial Services will be held at the El Camino Memorial Chapel, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121 on Monday, August 17th, at 2 p.m. and the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church, 6929 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95823 on September 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Salvation Army will be greatly appreciated.
