Lodrego was born on November 4, 1932, to Noberto and Barbara Domingo in Ewa, Oahu, Hawaii. He was the one of nine children. His siblings were Lourdes, Violet, Hime, Manuel, Alfredo, Carole, Juanita and Loling. His family nicknamed him Henry, and he went by that name until he joined the Marines. He often shared a room with Alfredo as kids, and his sister Violet was the one that mainly looked after him as he grew up. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the family moved to the Philippines before returning to Hawaii in 1947.
As Lodrego grew up, he was determined to join the military service. He worked at Pearl Harbor as part of the National guard. In 1951, he tried to enlist in the Navy, but was turned down. A few days later, he went into a recruiting station in Honolulu and spoke to someone about the Marine Corps. He passed the test and joined the Marines that day. He was sent to San Diego for training, then transferred to Barstow, CA before being sent to Incheon, Korea in 1952. He served in the Korean War for about a year before being transferred back to Hawaii. Lodrego also served in Vietnam War twice, once in 1963 and once in 1968. When not serving in the wars, he was stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Oahu HI, San Diego, Oceanside or Barstow in CA, and Albany, GA. He transitioned to the Marine Corps Reserves in November 1971, and soon started working in Dietetic Service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in La Jolla, CA. Lodrego retired from the VA in 1987.
Lodrego met the love of his life, Jeannette Beatrice Crowell, through his brother Hime and his wife, Tilly. Jeannette was a friend of Tilly, and Lodrego asked her out a week after they met. They fell in love and were married on July 23, 1955. Lodrego and Jeannette had four children: Lodrego (Henry), Derrick, Barbara and Donna. When Jeannette passed away in 2011, Lodrego continued to be faithful to Jeannette and remained single for the rest of his life.
Lodrego and Jeannette were avid sports fans. After retirement, they had season tickets to the San Diego Padres and the San Diego Chargers and attended every home game for several years. They also enjoyed their annual trips to Las Vegas.
Lodrego was preceded in death by Jeannette and his youngest daughter, Donna. He is survived by his son Henry (Suzy) of Houston, Tx; son Derrick (Meg) of San Diego, CA and daughter Barbara (Alfred) of Oceanside, CA. The nine surviving grandchildren are Valeina (Jeremiah) of Meridian, ID; Rebecca (Mark) of Friendswood, Tx; Christopher (Sandy) of Houston, Tx; Laura of Oakland, CA; David of Oakland, CA; Jariel of Oceanside, CA; Marie (Randy) of Houston, Tx; Kerri of San Diego, CA and Anthony of Houston, Tx.
