Chief Petty Officer Lorenzo Garcia Gaspar passed away at the age of 91 surrounded by family and friends in his home in San Diego on the evening of May 20, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Lorenzo is survived by his wife Nelly of 59 years, 2 children Lorenzo Ted & Irene Ann and 4 grandchildren Justin, Christopher, Donovan & Jade.
Lorenzo was born on November 21, 1926 in Illocos Nortes, Philippines. He is the oldest of 6 Children. He joined the US Navy soon after he received his BS from the University of the East, Manila, Philippines in 1955. He met his wife Nelly in San Diego and married in 1959. A veteran of the Vietnam War he served on the USS Coral Sea. He lived in Washington DC, the Philippines and Norfolk, VA during his career. He retired from the Navy in 1975 and returned to San Diego where he continued to work for the DOD as a Computer Data Analyst. In 1983, he received his BBA from National University.
During his retirement, he focused on his favorite hobby of growing various vegetables & flowers, and avocado trees in his garden. He was especially proud of his harvest of avocado trees and his variety of plumerias, roses & beautiful orchid flowers. He also took great joy in sharing all he grew with family, friends and neighbors. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching almost any sports with his son and son-in-law Mark. Lorenzo loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren always put a smile on his face. He was truly a family man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
