Our “Family Angel”, Lorraine Marie Barrack, passed away peacefully in Christ in the late afternoon of October 28, 2020. Since COVID, she endured 8 hospital admissions and weeks upon weeks of isolation. Pre-COVID, she was never left in a hospital alone. Thankfully, she was able to come home for her “extra nights” in between hospitalizations. She was so happy and brave!
She was the daughter of Alfred T. Barrack Sr. and Elaine June Barrack, sister of Alfred T. Barrack, Jr. & Katarina, Gerard N. Barrack & Andrea, Anthony J. Barrack & Sandra, Sophia M. Williams & Albert, Maryanne G. Kuhn & Sean, Sr. and Nasim P. Barrack & Devon. She was loved dearly by her gt.grandparents, grandparents, gt. aunts & uncles, aunts & uncles, nieces & nephews, and became a “Great Aunty Rainie” to many. She loved all her dear cousins, caregivers and friends dearly, and especially her “BFF” Haide. She always asked, “where is my BFF Haide?” or “When is Haide coming?”
She loved you dearly! You took such amazing care of her. You were always so cheerful & engaging w/her, always talking, singing, praying with Lorraine : ) She had so much fun with you! It was because of you and Marissa that mom and dad were able to enjoy life and travel with Rainie. God Bless you always! To Sheryl, may God rest your soul!
At birth, Lorraine was given a 3% chance to live. She was born prematurely and diagnosed with a hydrocephalus condition, cerebral palsy, spastic quadriplegia, and moderate IDD. With her mother and father’s unconditional love, dedication and sacrifice, along with raising her 6 other siblings; they began a lifelong journey for Lorraine’s wellbeing as well as their commitment & tireless support of others with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities.
The devotion of Lorraine’s parents was exemplified in many ways. Lorraine’s mother was a fabulous cook, inventor, and a tireless advocate as a board member for the disabled. Her father, a pharmacist, businessman and board member, supported Lorraine and the family selflessly and with his great love and sacrifice. Her parents created many unique devices for Lorraine to help her feed herself, stand, walk, scoot, swim and normalize her daily life. These allowed her to join in with others in activities that we all enjoyed. Her participation in social activities was very important to the family. Lorraine was always supported by her caregivers, family & friends and engaged in several outreach programs. The generosity and donations from the community allowed Lorraine and others to participate in outings, activities and special education. Thank you for your continued support of these special individuals!
Lorraine joyously loved life! Definitely a world traveler! She loved to fly, First Class of course! Some of her travels around the world w/her parents & sometimes grandmothers included pilgrimages to Holy places like: Rome, Lourdes, Fatima, St Anne’s shrine in Canada, etc. She also traveled w/parents & a few siblings to places like: Mexico, Alaska & Hawaii. She was also a great negotiator and would bargain with dad for extra nights! She always won that bargain! She loved her birthday and celebrated it all year round! Her favorite place was “H-O-M-E” and Disneyland. She loved to camp, travel, go to the movies, go out to eat and she especially loved going to church, would ask to go and could recite the entire Mass and enjoyed singing the hymns. She was a “dare devil” at heart! She flipped over on a wave runner at the lake, enjoyed the adventure of E-ticket rides like the Matterhorn at Disneyland, rode horses, the dune buggy and mini bikes at the desert, got stuck at the top on the biggest ferris wheel ever and loved every moment of it! She loved to listen to the Beach Boys & John Denver and watch The Lawrence Welk Show every Saturday night! One of her favorite songs to sing, “You Are My Sunshine” and sung every verse! She loved pina coladas, pizza, ice cream and cake and was never too bashful at a restaurant to ask for extra cherries nor was she ever shy about asking for extra pudding at the hospital. Her strength, will to live and bravery pushed her through many life threatening surgical procedures and medical complications.
Thank you to all of Lorraine’s caregivers and friends from the Barrack Home at Friendship Developmental Services/ResCare. You were her mom and dad, brother and sister and cared for her like your own family. God knows who you are! You will be blessed with eternal happiness…all of you! May God Bless You Forever for your 24/7 unconditional, genuine loving care. To all those who cared for her at HGH, the ARC and STEP, May God Bless You Forever! May God continue to give you strength, joy and happiness for all your hard work, dedication, commitment, care and love for Lorraine and all those special individuals like her. To the doctors, nurses & health care-givers that have treated her at all the different hospitals along the way, God Bless You Forever! For all those who work to better the lives of those like Lorraine, God Bless You Forever!
God constantly tested and challenged Lorraine like he does with us all. The most difficult challenges we face in our lifetimes pale in comparison to the tests she (and all those like her) faced every day of her life. No matter what, Lorraine always passed those tests with flying colors. Lorraine was the ultimate example of humility, patience and grace. She never wore her pain on her face and instead, she had a brave smile to give as her gift to the world. You all know that brave smile. Rainie girl could really light up a room. She was very much a “people person.” She was smart, intelligent, very street wise and a real “social butterfly”. Her beautiful spirit portrays the true meaning of Joy!
Let’s all join together now and pray for all the souls of the faithful departed…
“May Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them; May their souls and all of the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace Amen.”
~ Rest in Peace Rainie Girl ~
