OBITUARY

Louise Shacklett

January 8, 1921February 15, 2018

Louise Shacklett was born, Lucia Amade Gold, on January 8, 1921, in Del Norte, Colorado, and died on February 15, 2018, in San Diego, California, at the age of 97. She married Epimenio (Eppie) Quintana Herrera, on January 6, 1941, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Del Norte, Colorado, and they moved to San Bernadino, California.

Over the years, Eppie and Louise moved to Bloomington, the Bay Area, and Lodi and finally settled in Stockton, California, where they lived from 1952 to 1972. In Stockton, Louise worked for JC Penney and later, for many years, at the California State Hospital. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was involved in volunteer work, the Legion of Mary and the Cursillo Movement. Louise and Eppie had 2 daughters, Marcy Powell and Bonnie Arora.

In 1972, after Bonnie was married and moved to Chicago, Eppie and Louise decided to sell their home in Stockton and move to Camarillo, where their daughter, Marcy, lived with her family. They enjoyed the next several years living walking distance from their grandsons. When Eppie began to suffer from parkinson's dementia, Louise cared for him until he passed away in 1984. Louise married Ed Shacklett, who passed away several years later.

In 2003, Louise sold her home in Camarillo and moved to Stockton to be near her sisters and finally decided to move to St. Paul's Manor, a retirement community in San Diego, California, to be near her daughter, Bonnie. She later moved to St. Paul's Villa, an assisted living community. When she suffered a seizure in 2014, she moved to St. Paul's McColl Health Center, a skilled nursing facility. Though she suffered from increased dementia, she remained in good spirits and kept everyone entertained with her funny sayings and singing.

Louise is survived by 2 daughters, Marcy (Denny) Powell of Belen, New Mexico, and Bonnie (Krishna) Arora of San Diego, California, 9 grandchildren,19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind 2 sisters, Ernestine Silva and Catherine Andrieski, 1 brother, Albert Gold, and many nieces and nephews and friends beyond counting. She will be greatly missed by all she touched.

Grandma, thank you for the grilled cheese and BLTs. The cinnamon toast was my favorite. Thank you for taking care of me when my parents were out of town. You always made me feel safe. Wherever you were, there was energy. Life. Thank you for the advice. All the pep talks. "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." You used to tell me that I should wash my hair twice every time I shower: once to get all the dirt out, and another time to make my hair smell good. Always providing guidance and words of wisdom. Sorry for sometimes teasing you and misbehaving. Thank you for not letting it get to you. Thank you Grandma for all the memories. I will cherish them for as long as I live. And I will forever remember you every time I play a grand piano. I promise to keep practicing until it sounds just right. Thank you. I love you.

I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful lady many years ago when my daughter, Lesley, married her grandson, Rajiv Arora. I found her to have a great personality and outlook on life. My condolences to all the family on their loss, but especially to Bonnie and Krishna, and Rajiv. I know she will be greatly missed. My prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
