OBITUARY

Lucia Yadira Reyes Duarte

December 1, 1960February 6, 2021

Lucia Yadira Reyes Duarte was born on December 1st 1960 and passed away on February 6th 2021 at her home in Chula Vista. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her two children, Elvis Jose Contreras (Evangelina Moreno), Emilse Cristina Becerra (Joshua Ryan Becerra) and her two granddaughters that she adored through and through, Amanda and Alycia Contreras. Lucia Yadira Reyes Duarte worked extremely hard to defy the odds to come to America and provide a better life for herself and for her children. She endured more trials and tribulations than one can imagine, but it meant nothing to her for as long as her children built a life for themselves, she could endure anything. Her life revolved around her family and though she did not have all the riches in the world, to have such a strongly knit family made her a wealthy woman. Seeing her smile, her glimmer in her eye or to hear her infectious laugh, her loved ones knew that she was proud that her hard work and undying love for her family had paid off. Lucia was unique, true to herself, resilient, memorable, compassionate and most importantly she was and always will be my mother, my best friend and now; my guardian angel. She was a tremendous woman who taught me everything about life and how to be the best person I could be, no matter what life threw my way. She taught me family is what matters most, because no amount of money can buy you time with a loved one. She taught me so much, but she never taught me how to live without her. With a heavy heart, I can say that I am glad she is in peace, because I am humbled to know that God needed her more than I did. I will still talk to her everyday and continue to make her proud and she will forever be the essence of who I am. “If roses grow in heaven, Lord, please pick a bunch for me. Place them in my Mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me. Tell her that I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, I do it everyday, but there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away.” I will always love you Mom or as we used to say, “Te quelo mucho.” -Emilse Cristina Becerra
