Manuel J. Alvarez was born on July 5, 1930 in El Limon, Mexico, and passed away in his sleep from natural causes on December 28, 2019 in San Diego, California. Manuel is preceded in death by his mother Blasa and aunt Jesus. Manuel is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Carol Ann (Scott) Alvarez; children, Mary Anna Alvarez Tomanelli (Steve) and Lynn Alvarez Doupsas (George); grandchildren, Jason Poellot (Heather), Nicholas and Christina Doupsas; and great-grandchildren, Jaden and Caleb Poellot. Manuel moved to the United States when he was 26 years old and lived in his beloved San Diego since then. He was a naturalized U.S. citizen. He worked at Reichhold Chemicals for more than 40 years. After his retirement, he became an avid stock market investor with much success. His other favorite pastimes included watching football games as often as possible (Go Chargers!), the Lawrence Welk Show every Saturday night, and timeless classical movies. Although he was inseparable from his cushy armchair, he loved gardening, photography, and taking long road trips all over the country. Above all, Manuel loved to spend as much time as he could with his family. He will be greatly missed. May his memory be eternal.
A private Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at El Camino Memorial--Sorrento Valley in San Diego, California.
