

CWO4 Manuel “Manny” PeBenito Supnet, 91, died peacefully in his home on April 27, 2023 in San Diego, CA. Manny is survived by his daughters, Cathy, Audrey and Joi; sons, Manuel II and Michael and Mark, grandchildren, great granddaughter, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, daughter, Karen and grandson, Nicholas.
Manuel was born on June 9, 1931 in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines to Nemesio Vera Supnet and Lourdes Rosine PeBenito. He married Gloria Tamayo Brillantes in 1962 and were married for 55 years until her passing in 2017.
A scholar in Manila before joining the Navy, Manny said he had the blessings of God for his accomplishments. He excelled in academics receiving an Associate of Science degree, Bachelor of Arts degree, and Master of Science degree, all at the expense of the Navy.
After more than 30 years of continuous service in the US Navy, Manuel retired on January 1, 1986, as Chief Warrant Officer 4, CWO4. He entered the Navy in Sangley Point Naval Base in the Philippines on October 11, 1955, as a Steward Recruit. Early in his naval career, he was selected to attend the Navy Journalism Class “A” School in Great Lakes. Manny was a journalist for various newspapers where he was stationed. He saw combat in Vietnam aboard the USS Okinawa. While an enlisted man, he rose to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, E-9. When he received his initial commission appointment to CWO2, he would apply his experience in counseling enlisted personnel. He last served at the San Diego Navy Recruit Training Center as Director of Standards and Evaluation.
Manuel participated in many civic activities: Filipino American Military Officers Association (FAMOS), Military Officers Association of America, Filipino American Retirees of Southern California (FARSOC), Santa Maria Ilocos Sur Association of Southern California and Filipino American Association of San Diego North County.
Visitation and service for Manuel will be held on May 17, 2023 at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., San Diego, CA 92121. A graveside service will follow immediately at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA 92122. Father Romie Supnet will officiate the funeral services. Reception to follow.
