July 17, 1936 - February 19, 2025
Marcelina "Cely" Catindig Rafanan, 88, of San Diego, CA, peacefully passed away on February 19, 2025, surrounded in the love and presence of her family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Bartolome Ragamat Rafanan, on October 26, 2017.
Born to Leon and Caridad Catindig on July 17, 1936, in the Philippines, Cely dedicated her life to caring for her family. She married Bartolome on May 8, 1967, and together they raised three children. In 1977, Cely and her family left the Philippines, eventually settling in San Diego, CA, in 1984, where she and Bartolome built a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.
Cely loved her sweets, especially McDonald's Frappuccinos and ice cream. She had a passion for gardening, particularly her orchids and fruit trees, even cherishing those that grew accidentally in her backyard. Cely enjoyed playing "Bonus" at Barona Casino and Sycuan Casino, she delighted in the colorful world of Candy Crush on her Apple Tablet, and she took great pleasure in the challenge of solving word search puzzles. On her Nintendo System, she would meticulously pick the weeds in the Animal Crossing game and had great fun playing Dr. Mario.
Her love for her family was evident in every meal she prepared, ensuring they were always well-fed with delicious, home-cooked Filipino dishes. With a warm smile and a heart full of affection, she would often call out, "Mangan tayon!" inviting everyone to gather and enjoy the food she lovingly made.
Every day, Cely would gently remind her daughter, Gail, to 'drive safe,' a heartfelt reflection of her unwavering love and care for her well-being.
Cely is survived by her children, Roy (Jennifer) Rafanan, Gail Rafanan Panzarini, and Lynn (Roger) Hansen; and her cherished grandchildren, Natalio Rafanan Panzarini, Nathan Bartolome Rafanan, Natalie Christine Rafanan Hansen, Adam James Rafanan Hansen, and Matthew Ryan Rafanan Hansen.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at St. Columba Catholic Church in San Diego, CA. A reception will follow from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, with her final interment at Miramar National Cemetery from 2:15 PM to 2:45 PM.
May Cely rest in eternal peace with our Lord.
