Margaret ‘Margie’ Mabry of San Diego, CA passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, three months shy of her 93rd birthday. After a month of declining health, Margie passed with her children by her side. Margie was born in a little farmhouse in Corkishbane, County Monaghan, Ireland on September 2, 1933, to father Owen and mother Brigid Mohan. She was one of four children. Her wish growing up was to live somewhere sunny and warm. Margie wrote to her Aunt Molly who lived in NYC and asked if she would sponsor her to come to America. Aunt Molly did sponsor her and also sponsored her sister Masie, bringing the two of them to America in 1950. Margie always spoke fondly of her time spent working in NYC. First as a nanny, then as a waitress at the legendary Schraft’s restaurant. It was there she met her lifelong friend Nancy. Together, they decided they wanted to see the new country. Their friend wrote a letter to The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO asking if there were positions available. The response came back positive, and the two of them, along with her sister, took the train out west. Masie returned to NYC, but they decided to move on to Denver. This began a year-long travel adventure in 1956. They bought a car, flipped a coin to decide who would learn to drive and off they went. Their travels ultimately led them to San Diego. She met her husband, Wayne, in January of 1958 at a dance in San Diego. She fell for him quickly and the two were married just four months later. They were married for 63 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family; dance recitals, baseball games or school activities. Every Sunday for too many years to remember, she had a pancake breakfast for all of us. She traveled with her husband to many destinations. They saw a lot together, Portugal, France, England, Ireland, a ten day cruise to Hawaii, as well as numerous driving vacations; one taking them to the East Coast and back. Her grandkids will always remember playing shuffle board in their driveway, discovering the new toys that just showed up in the playroom and her never wavering presence in their lives. For the last six years, she enjoyed all the visits with her two great-granddaughters. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents and by her brother Owen Mohan, sisters Anna Callan and Masie Cronin and her niece Margaret Cronin. She is survived by her children Kenneth Mabry, Linda Coppa and Michael Mabry; grandchildren Michael Coppa, Jimmy Coppa, Brooke Test (Zack Test); great-granddaughters Naomi and Chloe Test, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends of her kids she considered her own.
