Margie Ann Foelber

In sadness, and with praise to the ever-living God for His mercy and grace, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Margie Ann (Mutscher) Foelber, on August 28, 2026, in San Diego, California.

Margie was born June 28, 1938, in William Penn, Texas, to Gertie (Goeke) and Gus Mutscher. She grew up in Brenham, Texas where she was remembered as an accomplished student, spirited leader, vivacious cheerleader, and friend to all.

Through her travels with the Lutheran Walther League, Margie met Herbert Foelber in Indianapolis, Indiana. They married at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham in 1959 and shared 67 years of devoted partnership.

Education remained central throughout Margie’s life. After studying at Blinn College and the University of Texas, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Butler University and her master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She later earned her administrative credential from San Diego State University.

Margie dedicated more than 30 years to the San Diego Unified School District, serving as a preschool teacher, classroom teacher, and elementary school principal. She led several schools before concluding her career at Florence Elementary in Hillcrest.

In retirement, Margie and Herb enjoyed traveling, volunteering in their community, reading, watching tennis, and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joy was the family she loved so deeply.

Margie is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Herb; her only child, Rebecca (Becky); son-in-law Steve Phillpott; grandsons Christopher (Marco), Eric, and Robert; brother-in-law Fred Boecker; sister-in-law JoAnne Mutscher; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who admired her and held her in deep affection.

Services are pending. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foelber Family Scholarship in graduate education, at San Diego State University or Blinn College, Brenham, Texas
