Hay muchas cosas que no entiendo al estar pasando por esto, pero siendo tú y viendo  cómo has vivido tu vida entera, con tanta pasión, determinación, paz, amor, aceptación, sentido del humor, espiritualidad, confianza, has logrado que estos momentos también sean momentos especiales, mágicos y llenos de amor y me siento tan afortunada, tan completamente llena de amor y estoy en awe de ti, más que nunca. My dear friend, I am filled with so much gratitude for your loving friendship. You have always been so kind to me and made me feel so special. Thank you for being my dear friend.💗 The times that you spent talking with Jamie meant a great deal to him. Three years ago when Tim was going to Mexico City you spoke with him and gave him encouragement and tips on traveling there. He is now in a relationship with a beautiful girl named Lorena Riuz Mendoza from Mexico City. She has moved to Melbourne to study and they are living together there. 
He is in Mexico city at the moment on a short visit. 

I will love you always and look forward to being reunited with you again. Thank you for being my inspiration , always. 💗My profesora!!!💗

Mariel spent several years with us as a yoga teacher and friend.   She helped Jim get back in good shape after major surgery and then continued to work with us as a couple as we continued on our healing journey.  Jim left us in August 2018 and Mariel continued to be a friend and teacher as I found a new way to live.  I use the daily practice that she wrote for me regularly still.   She will always live the story of the starfish.  As the man threw the starfish back in the water and a little boy said, but that is only one and there are hundreds on the beach.  The man replied, it made a difference for that one.  Mariel has done that for us.  She makes a difference for everyone she touches.  Her impact memories and love will live in our hearts forever.


I met Mariel at the pool in Coronado back in 2001. We swam together, laughed together, and she desperately tried to teach me Spanish. I will remember her incredible outlook on life. Always a positive person who touched so many lives. These memories live on forever. 

Siento mucha gratitud por haberme atravesado en el camino de Mariel y por haber tenido la oportunidad de tener tantas largas pláticas caminando en la playa. Me dio la oportunidad de conocerme y ver la riqueza del alma. Estoy muy conmovido pues era algo que no esperaba.  Envío mis bendiciones a Mariel donde quiera que se encuentre.

28 years ago I recognized my soul sister Mariel at an aerobics class at a YMCA in Woodlands Texas. It was a recognition and not a first encounter and an immediate connection with a soul I knew well. 
I knew that I had known her before and being with her was so familiar! The joy that I had when we connected was unlike one I had ever known. Every opportunity we had to spend time together was one of absolute delight! And from that day on, over the last 28 years we have shared joys, sorrows, challenges, and the most intimate parts of our lives as well as plenty of laughter and out right fun! My dear sweet soul sister you have brought so much joy and unconditional love to my life along with wisdom, courage, faith, empathy and the encouragement to follow my own dreams to create a life without fear and bring forward my best self. Being with you was always a great joy for me from the minute that we said hello to the moment that we said goodbye. Every minute we were together, I was grateful. I look forward to the next time I see your bright shiny smile and your radiant energy sparkle, and until then, I will look for you everywhere in this lifetime and in all the lives yet to come.


Ele, fíjate que hoy entró el otoño, mi época favorita del año y me quedé pensando “cómo es la vida no?” Así tal cual como el otoño, se caen las hojas secas para poder darle lugar a nuevas plantas, a nueva vida. 
Siempre has sido como un árbol enorme y frondoso, lleno de vida y de frutos buenos. Siempre dando vida y amor a tu alrededor.
Al secarse las hojas y caerse se sabe que es el fin, pero sólo en este plano, ya que las hojas secas al caer también brindan nutrientes a las nuevas plantas. A pesar de ya no estar en su árbol, siguen dando vida, siguen dando amor. Y las plantas que quedan y las que quedan por venir agradecen su paso por esta vida, ya que esa hoja que cae las ayuda a seguir adelante, a seguir creciendo y a seguir dando vida a todo su entorno. 
Sin el otoño no existiría la primavera, así que disfruta la primavera que viene con todo el amor del mundo, que nosotros siempre te llevaremos presente en todas las estaciones.

Quiero decirte que en el poco tiempo que tuve el gusto de conocerte, llegaste a ser parte de mí y de mi familia. El cariño que te pude tener en este tiempo fue muy grande, y mas porque conocí a una de las dos personas mas importantes para Steph, y quien la llevo a ser la mujer que es hoy y de la cual me enamore y decidí pasar el resto de mi vida. Quiero que estes tranquila sabiendo que la voy a cuidar y a respetar y que siempre te vamos a llevar en el corazón. Hearing about Mariel brought me to the depth of tears -both sadness to hear of her passing and joy, simply just thinking of her, feeling her and seeing her in my mind's eye.  She was and will always be one of my favorite people EVER. 

I only knew her for several years back in the Woodlands. Our time together on this earthly plane, I suppose you could say, was relatively short. And, from the moment I met her, my heart was full. I knew she was a special being, woman, wife, daughter, mother. To me, she was a true angel. I experienced her as sensitive, strong, passionate, bright, kind, fun, adventurous, compassionate, loving, inspiring, talented, courageous, helfpul and wanting to make other lives better ... I could go on and on. She had a zest for living, a smile that brightened everything and everyone in her space, and a kind heart that translated to being in service, in some way, to others.  To me, she felt like a "sister," and I felt grateful to be her friend. I appreciated and admired her so.

I imagine that wherever she is now, she is brightening that world as she brought light, joy and Love here to us.

Uno de los momentos que mas recuerdo fue en el 2006 cuando tomamos el tren de San Diego a Los Angeles para celebrar tu cumpleaños, con Cami, Gina, y Teresa.  
Te fuiste muy temprano pero no dudo que nos encontraremos en la otra vida.

Dear Mariel,
I loved everything about you and will forever be grateful for the way you touched my life. I loved the yoga classes you lead and I will never forget how incredibly in touch you were with your body and you moved like a dancer, a mermaid and a yogi all in one. Every  pose you lead was poetry in motion. Your clear mind, kind eyes and open heart will always stay with me...Thank you for giving so much and with such joy. My favorite memory of you is one early evening I was walking at the shores with my daughter when she was a toddler. I was in a crisis and was feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders that day. I came upon you and Brandon bounding down the boardwalk hand in hand and laughing with each other so joyfully almost like children. Your happiness permeated my pain and inspired me. We  greeted each other  and an I asked, "what are you guys up to?" your eyes lite up and you flashed a big smile as you giggled out the words, "were going to play!".. your enthusiasm for life was palpable and I could feel how much you and Brandon loved each other. Though I had never considered the concept, I loved the idea of adults playing and jumping into an experience with the joy of a child. I remember thinking, wow I wanna feel that way! I remain inspired by that encounter and make time to "play" as often as I can.  You were, are ,and always will be a light, a beacon of hope and a happy memory for me. I love you, Thank you sharing your many gifts with me.

• Recuerdo cuando tú y Brendan me invitaban a quedarme el fin de semana con ustedes en la casa que
tenían en Satélite y luego las visitas a la casa de Woodlands.
• Los viajes a Vail y Orlando (incluyendo el día que el policía se acostó en la pipi de todos a lado de la minivan
cuando se nos ponchó la llanta .... jajajaja).
• Me enseñaste todo lo que se sobre la Yoga.
• Recuerdo las mil y un comidas del domingo en casa de mi mama, platicando de todo y nada.
Tengo muchos recuerdos más, pero estos resaltan cuando veo esta foto. Difícilmente puedo pensar en un momento familiar feliz sin que tu estés en el cuadro. Te conozco desde que tengo uso de la razón y siempre has sido como mi segunda hermana. No sabes cuánto has contribuido a todas nuestras vidas. Me alegra mucho que Steph y Ter llevan por dentro toda tu bondad y alegría (ojala fueran igual de deportistas). Ten por seguro que a Brendan, Steph y Ter nunca les hará falta nada mientras yo viva. Aunque tengo muchísimos recuerdos contigo, esta foto es mi favorita y me lleva justo al momento cuando llegue a México y tú diste todo de tu parte para darme la bienvenida. Sabías que yo estaba como pez fuera del agua. 
Esta foto me hace recordar tantos momentos valiosos contigo. Seguramente te acordaras de algunos, quizá no todos; pero lo que sí te puedo asegurar es que yo nunca los olvidare: 
•	Cuando tú y Brendan eran novios y me llevaban a todos lados (sin excepción). 
•	Cuando me ayudabas a practicar mi español 
•	Nunca olvidaré las idas a la Anáhuac, donde jugábamos domino en la cafetería y después me metías a la clase contigo (donde todos fumaban como Chacuacos ... jajaja). 
•	Recuerdo con mucho cariño las comidas del fin de semana en casa de tus papás, donde me dejabas jugar con tu colección de llaveros, me ponías música de los 70’s y donde tu papá me contaba chistes. 
•	The “Gnomobile”. 
•	Recuerdo muchísimo que me llevabas seguido a comer en “las flautas”. A la fecha amo las flautas. También recuerdo que me hacías platillos voladores con cátsup. Love them! 
•	Recuerdo nuestro viaje a las grutas de Cacahuamilpa en el “Cougar” de Brendan. Gran viaje! 
•	Nunca olvidaré cómo me enseñaste a patinar en ruedas, justo a tiempo para el viaje a Cologne. donde patinábamos en la plaza principal. También recuerdo cuando escalamos miles de escaleras en la Catedral y vimos la exposición de Tutan Kamon. 
•	Recuerdo que me llevabas mucho a los helados de Danesa 33 en Tecamachalco (donde una vez te enojaste con la señorita que atendía porque fue grosera conmigo ... jajajaja). 
•	Recuerdo los miles de viajes al Princess de Acapulco con Cuauhtémoc y sus amigos, donde tú, Brendan y yo pasábamos horas en la cascada y la cueva de la alberca de sal. 
•	Recuerdo, con mucho cariño, el momento que me consolaste cuando estaba llorando en la playa en Playa Mujeres cuando nos enteramos que Cuauhtémoc no salía de la cueva.

Me enseñaste a ser yo mismo a aceptarme como soy, que no me de pena los juicios de otros, que soy perfecto como soy !! Diario, toda mi vida, uso tus enseñanzas y me hace ser una mejor persona !! Cada vez que te veo tienes una sonrisa gigante y una nueva historia que contar, divertidísima, de una de tus aventuras por todos lados. No hay persona que haya aprovechado la vida más que tú !! Cuando pensé en una foto tuya y mía solo pude pensar en esta. Me fascina! Me acuerdo de ese momento y de cómo me ataque de la risa. Así son todos mis recuerdos contigo, de tí o de mis atacadas de la risa. Me encantaría tener mil fotos de todos mis millones de recuerdos, pero la verdad es que de los mil momentos que he pasado contigo (prácticamente my second mother) casi no tenemos fotos, pero están en mi mente as clear as day entonces es prácticamente lo mismo. Has estado presente en todos los mejores momentos de mi vida, apoyándome o simplemente haciéndome reír como loca porque eso eres para mi, una persona FELIZ ! Siempre nos contagias esa felicidad. Tengo tantos recuerdos que podría escribir forever. Cuando tú y mi mamá nos cuentan las historias de Orlando y no pueden de la risa, Lake Powel y los ataques de risa de todo lo que pasó en ese viaje. Vail y las mil y un caídas y struggles to get up que ahorita me hizo laugh out loud nada más de pensarlo. Honestamente todos mis recuerdos contigo son riéndonos y son lo mejor del mundo mundial. My dear aunt Mariel, 
When I try to think back on one moment together with you that stands out above the rest, I get an endless flow of memories of conversations, trips, yoga classes, and family events. Even though I don't want to choose one over the rest, one thing is unmistakably in all my memories, and that is the way you make me feel. As if I am welcome, that I belong, and that I'm enough. 
Growing up I had to pick and choose people around me to be influenced by, to take advice, and to learn from. I am so thankful every day that you were close to me and my family so that I could pick up anything I could from you while we were together. I saw by the way that people interacted with you that you were loved and that you made people happy, and that's all that I want and more from my life. 
Thank you for being an example to me and to all of us, thank you for pushing us to be better with your fitness routines and diets, and most of all thank you for raising two incredible children who have been my brother and sister all my life, and will continue to be until my last day. I don't know what or where I would be without you and your beautiful family in my life, and I will miss you every single day.

Que difícil se me hace escribir esto por que me duele aceptar la situación en la que se encuentran tú y ahora mi familia nueva. No recuerdo el día exacto que te conocí pero creo que fue en el hospital de Coronado cuando Mario estaba enfermo. Como buena tía ahí estabas apapachandolo. You are like the sun to me radiant- fiery and shining on all that you encounter. I am so grateful to have felt the warmth of your rays and danced in the fiery passion of life with you. Mariel… Describing this kind of a relationship in words is an attempt to capture the beauty, power and experience of the ocean… There just aren’t the words to do it any justice. Any adequate attempt would require a novel- more likely a series.

In an attempt at a summary then- my fellow Scorpio and adventurer in this life. You are a beacon, a mirror, a teacher, a sister, a GODDESS. I feel like the moment we made eye contact my soul said- Hey I remember you and I LOVE YOU!!! I treasure every memory and moment we have shared. They provided such sweet comfort to relive and review in my mind’s eye. There was real magic in those moments. Such moments of joy, growth and struggle you held my hand through them all. You always had this way of seeing me and understanding the exact moment I was in.

 I feel like we shared so many experiences – how strangely paralleled our lives were in some ways and how clairvoyant you were for me. I suppose that’s what led to this profound sense of connection and joy for living this crazy strange life alongside one another for the precious moments we had. Some one to share it all with such passion and an adventuring spirit. Someone who saw the cosmic magic at play behind the scenes and held my hand when I ventured down some of the darker scarier paths.  You always held up your light and assured me there was perfection in all the unfolding and to trust. You also carried a torch for me and cheered me on so brilliantly in my more courageous and joyous moments.  I felt like we did a good job of supporting each other in our conversations even if during our talks to one another we realized we were really speaking to ourselves.  No matter how much time we had apart it felt like seconds when we reconnected. There was this perfect timing, divine timing you would call it. There always was the perfect ebb and flow.

The love and kindness she gave and left with all people she has met will never be forgotten.  Im grateful and honored to have met Mariel through yoga.  We had an inside joke and a saying which came about while I was struggling with my stiff body in a yoga class.   As she came over to adjust and help me ( 10000 bolcks and pillows😁) she wispered: " looks good Andreas.  Remember just  do everything with style!"
From then on, whenever it becomes hard, I'm make an effort to do it  in style.  
Mariel was was a wonderful human being and will live amongst all of us in spirit for ever.

There is so much more to say about this wonderful being, but I will keep it simple and close with this - Mariel is a person that comes around once in a lifetime and those that know her, know this very well. She loves her friends, life and her family with her whole entire self. There is no B.S. She comes from the heart and is all love. I feel lucky and blessed to be her friend, as she has made my life that much better.

Firstly and simply Iʼd like to say that Mariel has had a huge impact on my life. At my first ever job teaching yoga, I met Mariel. We were the only two yoga teachers at that time at the hotel in Coronado - her the more seasoned instructor and me the new kid on the block. I met her and almost right away saw what a cool woman she was. Mariel started taking my classes and I would take some of hers. I really took in a lot from her, not just the physical yoga instruction, but her demeanor and attitude. She truly came from the heart and it was infectious. She taught with a love and sweetness and true compassion that I think is rare. She really cared about each person in that class and you could feel it. I had taken a fair amount of yoga classes at the time and had studied many yoga manuals and books that talked of the term “heart centered yoga”. Mariel was and is heart centered yoga. She embodies it, she is it. Anyone who knows Mariel knows this about her and not just on the yoga mat, but in life. Mariel has a certain kindness and joy in her eyes that just makes you feel like everything is going to be all right. 
A few years we came up with an idea to make a yoga video together, representing the masculine and feminine aspects of yoga. We met and practiced for about a year, met with videographers, laughed, talked about the meaning of life (or the lack of it), talked about family, friends. We really got to know each other. Just being in her presence definitely helped me to become less stressed, as I can get a bit anxious and go over things in my mind a million times. I can hear her in my mind right now - “Cristiano, what are you going to do about it now? You have to wait and see. You canʼt force it. Just put in your good intentions and the outcome will be what it will be.” Over time she definitely became a mentor to me, in yoga and in life.

We got to know each other through our dearest friend Alicia; we met Karine - and through the work we did together we slowly got to know each other better. We shared many special moments, we learned together, we were able to create and share a beautiful place  where everyone felt safe and we could help others through our integrative approach. We did it all!! From meditation, yoga, art therapy, massage, acupuncture, and a lot more! Through our efforts, we were able to help so many and while doing all this for others - during all those years, we laughed a lot, we prayed, we cried, we worked on being better and being our best selves.I always admire your free spirit, your way of seeing and experiencing life with so much compassion, love, enthusiasm and light. I am so grateful that our paths crossed and we were able to spend so many years together.
