Sanfilippo, Mariano SAN DIEGO -- Mariano "Mario" Sanfilippo, 87, passed away on February 16, 2014. Mario grew up in Little Italy and attended San Diego High School. He was drafted into the Navy and served in World War II. Mario was a commercial tuna fisherman for 35 years. He was the Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #168. Mario is survived by his wife Betty of 65 years, daughters Jeanette (Jim), Marlene, and Bernadette (Bob). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Lauren, Jessica, Jonathan and Victoria. Viewing will be held Friday, February 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Merkley- Mitchell Mortuary, 3655 Fifth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103. A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 1140 Evergreen in Point Loma. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like to thank the nurses at Sharp Memorial Hospital for their excellent care.
