Marion Anthe Demos

July 12, 1938 – August 23, 2026

Marion Anthe Demos, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, nouna, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Marion was born on July 12, 1938, in Athens, Greece, to Gus and Angela Wallace. When she was two years old, her family moved to Detroit, Michigan, and in 1947, they made their way to San Diego, California.

In San Diego, the family became an active part of the community of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. As a teenager, she played the organ in the church choir, and it was there, in the choir loft, that she formed many lifelong friendships. Most importantly, it was there that she met the love of her life and devoted husband, William Demos.

Marion attended La Jolla High School and later San Diego State University, where she earned her teaching credential. She began her career in the San Diego Unified School District, teaching first grade. She took sixteen years away from the classroom to be home with their four children. She then taught middle school reading for many years in the Sweetwater Union High School District.

Marion’s greatest joy and deepest devotion was her family. Her home was the heart of her world, and she made her kitchen the center of the home. It was a place filled with card games, homemade cookies, stories, laughter, and, above all, love. Family and friends always knew they had a place at her table.

Marion had an amazing gift for creating beautiful things with her hands and gifting them with her heart. She spent countless hours knitting and sewing for the people she loved. She made prom dresses and costumes for her children, quilts and blankets for her grandchildren, and more than one hundred twenty-five Christmas stockings for family and koumbari.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, William Demos; her children, George Demos, Gus Demos, Angela and Jim Halpin, and Christina and John Frangos; and her six grandchildren, William, Nicholas, and Dillon Halpin, and Mariana, Chrysanthe, and Andreana Frangos. She is also survived by her sister, Irene and Evangelos Mylonas; her cousin, Theodore and Eleftheria Polychronis; her sister-in-law, Electra Demos; and many nieces and nephews.

A Trisagion and funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, located at 3459 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Marion’s memory to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, or St. Gregory of Nyssa Greek Orthodox Church.
