Mary Elizabeth Fischer
February 11, 1930 – March 21, 2021
born on February 11, 1930, in Los Angeles, to Alfred and Pansy Menick. Mary passed away on March 21, 2021. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and married John Fischer all in the same year of 1952. After giving birth to 10 children over the next 13 years and living all over California and Arizona, John and Mary have been settled in their current home in San Diego in 1976.
Known for her endless baking and sometimes aggressive delivery of homemade cookies, she was happiest when serving and taking care of others. From teaching sewing classes, surveying in Alaska for 10 years, learning how to windsurf in her 50's, getting a pilot’s license at the age of 59, sending thousands of birthday and anniversary cards (all on time), and making hundreds of homemade dresses and camp shirts, Mary had an endless amount of energy and hunger to learn and live a fulfilling and adventurous life. She will forever be remembered by her husband, John; her children; 26 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and any and every one she met in her 91 years of life. Everyone Mary met became family to her and she had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. When reminiscing about raising her children, the message remains consistent that she instilled confidence and optimism and always encouraged her family that they could try and excel at anything.
Mary will be joining her brother, Alfred Menick; her son, Jack Fischer; and her grandson, Dusty Watney in eternity.

Mary Elizabeth Menick Fischer will always hold a special place in my heart.
She is my "Aunt Mary, " a wonderful and joyful woman who was always kind, extraordinarily sweet-natured, and always a pleasure to be in her presence. Though i was unable to attend the many celebrations in San Diego and other California spots, the times we met were always a blessing, always a gift of love. Mary Elizabeth Menick Fischer is alive in all hearts -- and they are countless -- of those of us who love her, and Mary will be saving a place for all of us when each of us passes from this journey to the best one! Enclosed photo is an enhanced image of the match -- of Johnny and Mary -- made in Heaven, by the artist who is the first niece in their ever-enlarging family.

Our condolences on the loss of Mary. I had not met her personally but had heard what a wonderful woman she was. How blessed all the siblings were to have a mother like her! She is now so happy in heaven.
