January 22, 1918 to December 30, 2012
Mary Jane died peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law’s home, just three weeks shy of her 95th birthday. She was a resident of Pt. Loma for 57 years. As she stated several times over the past month: “Do not cry for me; I have had a wonderful life.”
Mary Jane was born in Elkhart, Indiana to Fred and Frances Elliott in 1918. She had 4 siblings who she adored: brothers Fred Jr., Jack and Bill, and sister Jean, all of whom preceded her in death.
Mary Jane was the Executive Secretary for the Point Loma-Ocean Beach Realty Association for 29 years. She never had a sick day off. She made many wonderful friends throughout her career, and retired in 1988.
Mom loved gardening, cooking, social get-togethers and bridge. She was an excellent bridge player, participating in numerous bridge groups over the years and continued playing up until last April. She was an extremely warm-hearted, caring and outgoing lady, who never met a stranger. She never had a bad word to say about anyone.
Mary Jane is survived by her son, Craig (Winnie) Morgan of Palm Harbor, Florida, and daughter Cindy (Mike) Lawrence of Tierrasanta; and four grandchildren: Christie (Carlos) Ocampo, Steve Lawrence, Marianne Lawrence and Tracy Lawrence. She is also survived by five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard, who died in 2000, and an infant son Ronald, who died many years ago.
Services and burial were held in Elkhart, Indiana on Thursday, Jan. 10. Special thanks to Sharp Hospice for their support and assistance over the past several weeks.
