Matthew Scott Ritchey

April 8, 1974October 23, 2019

Matthew Scott Ritchey passed away on October 23, 2019, at the age of 45. He was born on April 8, 1974, in the small town of Wray, Colorado. He is survived by his father, Merle Ritchey; brother, Darrel Ritchey; sister, Tammy Workman; stepfather, Dick Cramer; stepbrother, Don Cramer; and the love of his life and cherished husband, Jeffrey Mares. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucinda Cramer.

Matt and Jeff met in Greeley, Colorado, in the summer of 2003 and later married in 2014. After spending their lives in Colorado, they relocated to San Diego, California in 2016 where Matt called home until his passing.

Matt had a passion for technology and a very successful career in information technology (IT). He was very proud to have achieved his goal of obtaining the highly respected Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certificate and all of the opportunities that came with it.

Matt’s many friends and family will always remember him as a big teddy bear, always smiling and laughing. He enjoyed their company and never hesitated to provide a helping hand when needed. He has physically passed on but left us with many happy and fond memories to look back and smile upon. Matt will be sorely missed.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Matt’s life at a remembrance in San Diego and a memorial service in Colorado. The remembrance will be held at 2046 University Ave, San Diego at 1 pm on Saturday, November 23rd. Please send an email to ryanchristopher81@gmail.com to RSVP. The memorial service in Colorado is in the planning stages, and this will be updated with details when they are available.

Uncle Matt was the best uncle you could ask for. I have so many great memories with him. While visiting him and Jeff in Cali we went to Starbucks at least three times a day, he always had to have his iced tea. Matt always found a way to make me laugh and brighten up my day. I’m forever going to miss him and cherish every memory we had together.

Matty I will forever miss you. I couldn’t have asked for a better brother-in-law. I will miss all the times we shared and doing family things together . You were always there, always cared, always shared laughter. Everyone in my family truly loved and appreciated you. Rest In Peace my Matty, I will forever carry you in my heart.

Matt was a beloved friend and inspiration. In the short 3 1/2 years that I had the pleasure of knowing him, he has touched my life as if I have known him throughout all of it. He was a great example that we should all strive to follow.... with enough drive and passion, we can all achieve our goals. Matt, I will forever miss you...
