Born and raised in Point Loma, the daughter of Florence and Bernard Maloney, she was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She attended Loma Portal Elementary School and Dana Middle School, graduated from Point Loma High School as a song leader in 1950, and attended San Diego State University. Fondly remembered as a Pacific Southwest Airlines stewardess, she was admired for her beauty and elegant sense of style.
Married to Emil C. Ghio for 62 years, she was an impeccable homemaker, always-loving mother and grandmother, and fantastic cook, whose lasagna was a favorite. Of the many family pets over the years, Sophie the German Shepherd especially loved her best. Though she enjoyed good times sipping Campari and soda with wonderful friends over the years, home was always where her heart truly was and where she took her last breath surrounded in the love and comfort of family.
Mo is survived by her adoring husband Emil, son Stephen, daughter Marcy and her husband John Cunningham, son Chris and his wife Helen, and son Greg and his girlfriend Susan Meyer.
Grammy is especially missed by her four grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Dominic Cunningham, Derek Cunningham, Vincent Ghio, and Marie Ghio.
She was taken away too soon from her loving sisters Fran (Maloney) Mehling and Martha (Maloney) Gorrie.
Special thanks to Francisca, Maria, and the other devoted caregivers, who provided exceptional care and comfort.
There will be a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, immediately followed by a funeral Mass at St. Agnes Catholic Church, San Diego.
In lieu of flowers, please pray for her family and consider a donation to Father Joe’s Villages (my.neighbor.org) in Maureen’s honor.
