I had the pleasure of working with Melinda at the University of San Diego.  She was a delightful person to work with.  I appreciated her good sense of humor, her wisdom, kindness and strength.  I am sad to learn of her death.

Melinda made such a huge difference in my life. I am very grateful for her influence. She hired me when she was Principal at Adams elementary. When working there she gave me unconditional support and helped me learn my way around the district. I met and married the love of my life when working at Adams, in a very real way she can be credited with that and the joy I have found in 23 years of marriage. Thank you so very much Malinda the times we have seen each other over the years are fond memories.

I am so saddened to hear of Melinda's long illness and death. She was a wonderful friend to my best friend, Lila Chucas. Melinda and John briefly adopted my Golden Retriever, Sadie, until Sadie chewed up their garden (as I remember!). Sadie then found another home and eventually came back to me! John, I pray you will find confort now if all your wonderful memories. Sening love. Gail Edwards

I send our deepest condolences on behalf of the Francis and Frannie Von Arx Family, all of my grandchildren and Jon and I; we have enjoyed a long friendship with Melinda that included laughs, those lovely word games at the Von Arx table, shopping, and a deep rooted respect for all Melinda stood for.  She will be missed by all, but especially John and her family and her adopted Von Arx family.  All of you will be in our prayers...Mom (Frannie) especially sends her prayers to John and family and for Melinda.  Love you all....

Melinda and I shared a very special relationship.  Not only that of caregiver-patient but also that of loving friends. She played a very motherly role in my life these last 5 years, giving me inspiration and advice as a single mother to a 2 year old daughter. Melinda use to always say that we always just understood each other, felt better in one another's presence, and shared an endearing bond.  It was an honor to know and love this person. Melinda was a wonderful and beautiful humanoid. She was a blessing to this world. She treasured family, friends, students, and life.  I'll never forget her infectious laugh, or that smile of hers that could light up any room.  And Melinda's eyes.... always with a little glimmer or sparkle in them....even up into the final days. I send my deepest condolences to the Martin family. I was blessed that she referred to me as her adopted son. She has been an influential individual in my life for over 17years and I will truly miss her spirit, advice and genuine love that she has shown for me.
