Milagros (Mila) Maynigo Denton Goldberg was born on September 29th, 1948 and died surrounded by close family on Memorial Day, the 26th of May, 2014. Originally from the Philippines, she guided her education and career to success, having arrived to the United States in 1972. As a Certified Public Accountant, she obtained her MBA while working for (and eventually retiring from) the County of San Diego. Her resume also lists active leadership roles in many community and professional organizations, including California Society of CPAs and the County of San Diego Filipino Employees Association.
Mila is survived by her husband, Dr. Art Goldberg, and her children, Eugene Denton and Claudia Rockwood. She is the youngest of eight children, now survived by her brother Benjamin Maynigo, and sister Nelly Rabara. Mila is also preceded by her late husband, Claude Eugene Denton, who passed in 1993. As cited in the recent article authored by her brother, Benjamin, from the Asian Journal: “She is an amazing woman of energy and generosity, a dreamer, a fighter, loved by many, an achiever, and now a follower of God’s Plan.”
Before Mila’s death, her after-retirement dreams were fulfilled by traveling all around the world with Art, being a strong mother to two loving children, and knowing she was going to be a grandmother.
Flowers can be sent to the El Camino Mortuary in Sorrento Valley, where the viewing will be held on June 5th, 2014 starting at 4pm. Her funeral will be at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on June 6th, starting at 2pm.
