Born October 31, 1942 Died July 27, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce Missea Quon-Lun Cie (n′ee Mary Quon-Lun Akuna) entered into God's Grace on Friday, July 27, in Coronado, CA at the age of seventy-five years.
Born and raised in Keanae, Missea traveled from the taro patches of East Maui to New York, Texas, Virginia, Canada, Washington and Oregon. She spent most of her adult life in California, where she was a caring homemaker, dedicated mother and enjoyed a career working as a correctional officer for the State of California in both the adult and youth divisions in Ventura County. After retirement, she moved to live in San Diego.
She will be forever remembered with deep love by her children Dezireen U’i-Lani Austin, Peter Kauila Alapa'inui Cie, and Damien Kahekili Cie. She is also lovingly remembered by her seven grandchildren Alexander Ka’eokulani James Austin, Rebecca Kaonohi Anne Austin, Faith Malie Moana Thuy Duong Cie, Eden U’i Ani Huong Thuy Cie, Christabel Paloni Thien An Cie and Zac Kahekili An Duy Cie.
Missea had many friendships from her various travels and she enjoyed meeting new people. She will always be remembered as a cheerful person who asked others to enjoy life, avoid negative people, to move beyond past mistakes and discover personal success. She was a faithful follower of Christ and the family has comfort in knowing that death is not an end, but a beginning of a bountiful and blessed afterlife.
Missea Cie was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Ah Sing Akuna and Ani Kaonohi Alapainui Kekahuna; her sisters Mamo Lillian, Margaret, Frances Leimoana, Lono Marie Kamalu; and her brothers, Alexander Kaaha, James Kaaha, Alexander Ah-Sing and Richard Kanehunamoku. She is survived by her brothers Patrick Kamoahili and Peter LingChung; and her sisters Elizabeth Meiling Kauiokalani, Philomena Florence, Daisy Young Kiu, Rita Lani, and Gertrude Nalani.
A memorial service will be held at Cypress View Mortuary in San Diego, CA on Saturday, September 22nd from 2:00pm-3:30pm, with reception to follow. Mass Intentions will be offered at Sacred Heart Church, Coronado, CA at 5:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a gofundme.com account, the Missea Cie Aloha Spirit Scholarship, for senior memberships at the YMCA of which she was an active member. The family’s hope is that these YMCA memberships provide as much joy and happiness for others as it did for our mother.
