She was born in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, Philippines on May 21, 1942 during World War II, and was the daughter of the late Joaquin and Rosario Ronquillo. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Far Eastern University in 1965. She immigrated to the United States as a Navy wife in 1968 to Kingsville, Texas, with stints in Okinawa, Japan, 29 Palms, CA, Philippines, Guam, and eventually making San Diego her permanent home.
She worked in the medical field for the San Diego Clippers professional basketball team, and for the U.S. Government. She was very active in her community as a Treasurer for Balboa Park, North County Fil-Am Association, Boy Scouts, Little League, PTA and an organist for the Good Shepherd Catholic Church for over two decades. She was awarded Woman of the Year for her outstanding contributions to the San Diego community.
Myrna is survived by her loving husband, Roger Sangalang, three devoted children, Troy Sangalang and wife Judith Llorin Sangalang of San Diego; Mendell Sangalang and wife Amber Sangalang of Las Vegas; and Angela Marquez and husband Arnel Marquez of San Diego; her cherished sister, Herminia Ronquillo Sapico of Oakville, Ontario Canada and niece, Melanie Sapico and nephew Kyle Sapico of Milton, Ontario Canada.
In addition, she leaves her treasured grandchildren: Jeffrey Sabal, Jaydon Sangalang, Jonas Sangalang, Kimberly Ballard, Julianna Sangalang, Jordan Marquez and Jacob Marquez and Avery Sapico. And a very big family tree of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins and their children.
Her whole purpose in life was to love and take care of her family. She loved music: writing, playing and teaching the piano. She loved to travel with her family and has been to over 45 states and 30 countries. She loved sports and watching her children and grandchildren play. Myrna will be sadly missed by all who have crossed her path and will forever remain in our hearts.
