Nestorio was born in Jones, Isabela Province, Philippines on September 8, 1938 to Honorio Ignacio and Eulalia Dela Cruz Ignacio and is the second of eleven children. Nestorio, also known as Nestor, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, tito, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melitona and his sister, Alfonsa Aron. He is survived by her daughter Nemie (Ferdie), Nestor, Jr. (Molly), grandchildren Kevin, Kyle, Justin, Janell, Juliane, and Jasmine, and siblings Reginaldo, Ferdinand, Nicolas, Manuel, Febronia Ambrosio, Visitacion Amor, Honorio, Jr., Julio, and Clarita.
Nestorio earned his geodetic engineering degree from Far Eastern University (FEU) in the Philippines and practiced as a professional land surveyor in the Philippines immediately after graduation. In 1976, he immigrated to Guam and worked for several engineering and surveying companies. He spent the last 36 years of his professional career with Duenas, Camacho and Associates where he supervised a myriad of large topographic, cadastral and construction-related survey and mapping projects on Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. He loved his work so much that he continued practicing his profession until December 2022, well beyond the conventional age of retirement. He was a member and past president of the Guam Land Surveyors Association and was a member of the Guam Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors. During his career, he cultivated a standard of excellence as he mentored many of the current land surveyors working in Guam.
Nestorio was an avid reader, major history buff, a longtime subscriber to National Geographic magazines, and was particularly fond of watching and reading anything about WWII, his favorite era of history. His favorite past times were watching Jeopardy!, playing scrabble, and of course hitting the slots at the casinos. Though very soft-spoken and shy, he could belt out his favorite Sinatra and Andy Williams’ songs in a heartbeat during social gatherings. He had a big and generous heart and was instrumental in helping all his younger siblings obtain their college degrees. He taught his family the value of education and hard work and was a role model not just to his children and grandchildren but to everyone he met. He will be dearly missed.
Please join our family in remembering and celebrating his wonderful life. May we suggest wearing your favorite island/Hawaiian outfits for the visitation, mass, and inurnment in honor of him.
