Oscar Castelar Dy

Oscar was born on April 15, 1954 in Manila, Philippines to Jose and Estelita Dy. He graduated from St. Joseph’s School in Olongapo, Philippines before attending Deer Park High School in Cincinnati, OH as a foreign exchange student and graduated in 1972. He pursued dentistry at Centro Escolar University in Manila, Philippines before joining the United States Navy in 1976. He married Leticia Altares in 1979 and moved together to San Diego, CA where he was stationed. A veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer Disbursing Clerk in 1999 after faithfully serving for 23 years. He went on to work for the United States Postal Service until 2007.

Oscar was a quiet, kind, and thoughtful individual whom everyone respected and adored. An avid reader, he loved keeping up to date with politics and current events. He had a passion for singing and often performed for his friends and family. He was a dedicated member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poway, CA.

Oscar is survived by his wife, Leticia; children, Adrian and Alyssa; and siblings, Orlando, Orville, and Owen. He is preceded in death by his father, Jose; mother, Estelita; step-father, Antonio; and sister, Ofelia.
