Oscar was born on March 13, 1940, in Legazpi City, Albay, Philippines, to Policarpo Octavo and Angela Acabado Octavo.
Oscar lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a generous spirit. A talented mechanical engineer, he built a distinguished career with General Electric, General Dynamics, Rohr, and Boeing. Beyond his engineering accomplishments, Oscar pursued his entrepreneurial ambitions as a co-owner of Paras Beauty Supply & Salon and Paradise Wok, where his dedication and work ethic were equally evident.
Oscar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma Octavo, with whom he shared many happy years. Together they enjoyed gardening, visits to local casinos and Las Vegas, and creating a loving home and life for their family.
He is survived by his daughters, Jo Gerow, widow of Chris Gerow, and Bobbi Octavo, and by his cherished granddaughter, Ashley Prevost, who was the greatest joy of his life. Ashley was his only grandchild, and there was nothing Oscar loved more than spending time with her, supporting her, caring for her, and sharing in her life's adventures. His boundless love for Ashley was evident to all who knew them.
Oscar enjoyed playing basketball and golf and was known for his unwavering support of those he loved. He was Bobbi’s biggest fan, rarely missing an opportunity to watch her compete in sports. Gifted with remarkable mechanical skills, he seemed able to fix anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors.
Following Thelma’s passing, Oscar made his home with his daughter Jo, where they shared many years of comfort, companionship, and laughter. In his later years, he could often be found enjoying Turkish dramas and other streaming shows, cheering on the Golden State Warriors and other NBA teams, tending his garden, or visiting local casinos. He also held a special place in the heart of Cho-San, Jo’s beloved dog, whose favorite person was undoubtedly Oscar.
Those who knew Oscar will remember his kindness, dependability, intelligence, and quiet generosity. Whether repairing something in need of fixing, tending a garden alongside Thelma, cheering from the sidelines, or spending time with Ashley, he approached life with patience, humility, and deep love for the people who mattered most.
Oscar’s legacy lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched through his work, friendships, and unwavering devotion. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
